Commercial Description:
Deep red-black in color, with a dense chocolatey brown head. Hogsback is mildly carbonated and aged longer than other ales. This English style stout is richer, smoother and slightly sweeter than typical Irish style stouts, making it popular among a wider range of beer aficionados. Extremely complex in its flavor and aroma it will at once give you impressions of coffee, chocolate, molasses, hops, sweet malt, and silky-smooth alcohol. A big beer to brew, but worth the extra effort! This is Mt. Hood's second-most popular beer. O.G. 1.064/ 4.5 abv/ Magnum, Mt. Hood, Cascade, Willamette hops/ Four different malts and rolled oats/ Molasses and licorice.

Draught jar at Horse Brass. Poured black with brown head. Aroma of malt and chocolate. Full body with malt, chocolate and coffee, all wonderfully balanced. Lasting malt finish. Twenty minutes after I finished the pint I was still enjoying it. Definitely worth seeking out.

Tap @ Rams Head Bar in Timberline... Poured Black with a brown head. Aroma was roasted and maybe some baked cookies and sweet malt. Dry, full palate with a nice sizzle on the tongue. Flavors of coffee and roasted chocolate, nuts and malt. Finished very sweet with toffee notes and dry coffee.

Almost black with a nice brown head. Sweet and roasty aroma. A pleasant bitter roast turns into a nice sweetness that is softened by the oats. A nice smooth mouth feel.

Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and lighter notes of oatmeal, leading to a dry bitter finish with the chocolate note lingering.
