Commercial Description:
Ice Axe IPA is the Mt. Hood Brewing Co.'s flagship and best selling beer. Pale amber in color and aggressively hopped, Ice Axe is a mouth-filling and well balanced beer. Slight buttery overtones provided by oak-conditioning, gives it a character reminiscent of a fine wine. The mild spiciness and rich bitterness of the brewmaster's carefully selected hops shine through in the flavor and aroma. O.G. 1.060/ 5.9% abv./ East Kent Goldings, Mt.Hood, and Willamette hops/ Five different malts.

Draught @ Horse Brass Pub, Portland. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy aroma with some hints of citrus. Sweetish malty hoppy citrus flavor. Has a malty hoppy bitter finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

Sampled on tap at the Horse Brass. Amber pour with a small white head and mild lacing. Big hop and malt smell with some orange thrown in for good measure. Kind of weak and mild for the style and not something I’m a huge fan of in general.

Tap @ Rams Head Bar in Timberline... Poured amber/orange with a thin, white head. Aroma was full of hops and bread-like grains. Foamy and big mouthful, plenty of hop flavors. Otherwise, nothing to allow this IPA to stand out. Finished with a leafy and herbal taste. I would of loved to have seen a bolder brew like an IIPA or a Barley Wine given the mountain and all, something to warm you right up. Perhaps at the Ice Axe Pub down in Government Camp.

Clear golden with white head. Malty aroma, slight citrus hop nose. Crisp hop bite with a clean finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Amber gold color with a good off-white head. Light floral aroma. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Floral and fruit flavors over mild malt. Finishes smoothly bitter.
