Great start into the daker side of beer styles. It could of used a bit more hop to cut the malt a bit but overall a great beer that many brewpubs fail to make.

The name certainly isnít appealing, but I decided to get it on a whim at an "all-Michigan" microbrews month at my local favorite drinking place. You taste a chocolate almost immediately and it goes down as such yet despite that, you still get a good all around taste. It tasted great with my burger and the wings we ordered after 3 mugs. Itís my favorite from the Mt. Pleasant brewing people, and I highly recommend it.

Bottle. Roasted coffee and chocolate malt aroma. Copper color with small head. Coffee and dark chocolate malt flavor with a lightly bitter herbal hops finish. Very tasty brown ale.

12oz bottle poured into a mini 12oz looking pint glass thing.
Appearance: Awesome. Two finger tan head, nice and clear brown color, with outstanding lacing. Looks great.
Smell: Not much there. Some caramel malts with some traces of roastiness with some nuttiness and maybe some coffee. Smells like your typical brown, really.
Taste/feel: I am surprised. Iíd almost give this a four, but I canít quite do it -- this is JUST the brown ale you want to have on a hot day like today. Nice and cold, fairly thin but creamy feel, not too much carbonation, and tastes way better than I expected. Itís not bursting with flavor, but it has a nice creaminess. The flavor is primarily nutty caramel with a touch of roastiness. Itís not too bold, but itís very enjoyable. Iíd buy it again.

MPBC is a production-only facility, with a tap room, but no restaurant.
Their Hoboís Breath Brown Ale is described as an "intro to the dark side." Pouring dark red, almost brown in color, it has a malty nose, but little to no glass cling. Sweet, with an herbal nose, itís slightly spicy with a little more chocolate than caramel sweetness. The body is medium, with a crisp, clean finish and a lingering malty tail.
Very nice and an above average effort.

Bottle - Pours a dark brown. medium sized off white head. Nutty aroma. Flavor of roasted nuts. Medium bodied. This is my third sample from this brewery and by far the best. Overall a highly drinkable beer that I would try again.

Thanks to my Michigan pusher, Steve! Nice chestnut brown pour. Very fizzy pour with a modest nose. Taste is interesting, a trace hoppy but mostly fruity with an ever so mild tartness. Not bad.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The best MTS brew I tried at this session - a similar flavor to the red, but darker, deeper, and richer, with more sudued sours and some chocolate tones.

12 oz. bottle bought in Michigan. This is almost cola looking with dark brown and some red. A decent lighter tan head. I smell cocoa and soggy hops. It Also smells a little like root beer. The flavor is light cocoa with grass and earth. It is slightly roasted and, again, a bit of root beer. A dash of nuts, too. With warmer temperature more hops are tasted and they are grass. Later still the cocoa re-adds itself to the mix. The aftertaste is the grass and cocoa. They arenít a bad combination but this isnít a great beer.

12 oz. shorty bottle served in shaker- poured a darkened brown with a shade of plum color, several dulled tan frog eyes and a similar colored ring around the vessel for a head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, and some dulled hops. Hits the mouth with a slightly uneven medium body, malt doesnít have as much sweetness as the nose suspected, some very mild hops in the middle, finish is cloyingly sweet and just a touch acidic. Not too shabby.
