Bottled...very dark brown-black, nice brown head recedes quickly to a ring. super sweet aroma with some molasses and cocoa maybe. roasted coffee flavor up front, with a very sweet chocolaty finish. Medium mouthfeel. this really doesnít strike me as a russian imperial stout, more of a sweet stout, and a pretty good one at that.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/8/2014. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Good amount of herbal/roast/charred bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American stout style. All around good complexity, balance, and robustness of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering. Very big on flavor for the ABV.

Draft at Mountain Town Station. Pours black. Small off white head. Mild chocolate aroma. Flavors of roast, chocolate. This is good, but I have to laugh when I read the description. I would consider this a mild light bodied thin stout. Flavor is good and its very drinkable. Definitely not rich and hardy as described. Not something youíd seek out specially, but solid and easy drinkable.

Notes of dark fruit, burnt grains, smoke and a pretty rough tobacco aftertaste. Dark chocolate undertones. Burnt toast finish.

bottle to snifter. Large light brown head on top of a very dark brown to black beer. nose is light chocolate with some peanut butter notes. Taste is initially sweet with a light coco powder, but then finishes very bitter, astringent, and puckering, with some oversparged coffee grain flavors. something just doesnít finish right with this beer. weird.

Almost black. Tan lasting head. Bitter sweet chocolatey malt aroma and flavor. Some bitterness on the finish. A desert beer for sure.

12oz bottle. Enjoyed at robotoperaís lakehouse in Michigan. Pours a very dark brown color, not quite black. Thin brown head. Awesome aroma... Surprising amount of earthy bitter hop on this, coffee, dark chocolate, and heavy roast. Some light dark fruit. Loose ropes of lace. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. A lot less sweet than expected for a "sweet stout". Good bigger coffee in the finish. Medium body. Kind of slick texture. Lighter carbonation. Not so chewy. Solid, hoppier, more bittter stout. (sweet stout?? you sure?)

Rated on 01-21-2012 (Bottle) The appearance is a small tan head with a short retention, opaque dark brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The flavor is lightly bitter, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and thin. This beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is quaffable and has a thin texture for the style. It also has a roasty lingering aftertaste.

Well, itís a stout. Itís roasty and malty, has some smoky flavor but not much. Maybe a bit burnt which gives it a little bitterness. Not overly sweet. Good stout, probably better than average IMO.

12 oz bottle, presumably 2013, with a twist cap served in a snifter. Poured a very dark mahogany; clear with a small tan head that soon vanished; nearly no lacing. The aroma is mainly of dark malts; slightly smokey with hints of dark fruits. Taste: Rich and lightly smoky, with a touch of bitter chocolate and expresso. Roasted grains struck me as a bit too earthy and burnt. The burnt quality is responsible, in part, for making this "sweet stout" more bitter than sweet. M: medium body with a low carbonation level. O: Unfortunately, does not taste as good as it smells. Disappointing.

23912535 on the short-neck bottle, so I assume it means it was made 239th day of 2012... poured into a S.A. Perfect Pint glass. This is my second beer from the company after Train Wreck Ale, which I thought was average-ish. Appearance: Black. If held up to light, ruby black. Two finger head goes away pretty quickly, but a tan ring remains on top of the beer. Lacing is weak. Above average looking beer. Smell: Right up there with "the big boys" -- a very pleasant roasted malt aroma... maybe with some dark chocolate and coffee smells as well. Taste/feel: I tend to think porters have a lighter mouthfeel, but maybe thatís in my head, since stouts and porters seem to be intertwined. The feel is thin and quite carbonated, but Iím fine with that, personally. The taste is a lot like the smell -- a lot of that roast, which is of a pretty surprising quality, if I could be so honest. As the beer warms up a bit, some more sweetness comes through. A surprisingly good stout from a "where the hell brewed this?" brewery. These are actually the sorts of stouts I enjoy drinking. They arenít too heavy, and they have a solid flavor. Nice roast flavor in this one, and easy to drink. A great entry stout, Iíd think -- enjoyable, for sure. Honestly? I like this more than Bellís Kalamazoo Stout. Sue me.
