3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/1/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, honey, toast, brown bread, maple, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pine, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, honey/maple, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, honey, toast, brown bread, maple, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pine, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Good amount of herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, honey, toast, brown bread, maple, light pine, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and solid robustness of dark/bready malts, honey/maple, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a nice imperial amber ale style. All around good complexity and solid robustness of dark/bready malt, honey/maple, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. The flavors were not as bold as I would have expected given the ABV; but it was still really quite enjoyable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Slight notes of bready malt and a touch of honey to start. Pours a nearly opaque dark amber with a nice cap of white head. Slightly sweet flavor, with a touch of drying bitterness. Slick mouthfeel and heavy body makes this a sipper. The alcohol is well hidden, but there’s not much going on here. I was hoping for at least a little more notes from the maple and honey.

This ale poured a medium red colour with a white frothy head. Scents include honey, bananas, bubblegum and a faint hint of maple/caramel. First sip was smooth with a sweet honey, smoke, maple flavour in the forefront. Flavours of hops, caramel and smoke finishing with a light hop bitterness.

1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
This one truly is a train wreck. Pours a dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet banana and honey. Flavor is a harshly bitter honey and banana. This was just awful. I was very tempted to drain it.

On tap. Pours a hazy deep amber with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains with a grassiness and a bit of maple. Flavor combines grass and sweet grains with an underlying caramel and maple.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
pours cloudy medium dark golden orange with a light beige orange head, some retention and lacing. spicy and sweet fruity malts, bitter herbs and grass, belgian spicy yeastiness, good dose of caramel, some sweetness - woodsy honey, bit of nail polish and perfume. thankfully no articial maple esters. moderately low carbonation, light to medium body - fairly oily, semi-sweet, bittering and lightly astringent grassy-woodsy-spicy finish. no flaws are anything but just kind of unblending components, or just bland and blah.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The hints of maple and honey come out and complemented by the can. Only because he was my childhood idol was I one of the few people who bought Big Hurt Beer but this reminds me of a better crafter version of that beer. Nothing subtle about this amber. It's drinkable but nothing magnificent.
