3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Stew41 (1580) - Woodend, - JAN 28, 2013Loads of chocolate and roast on the nose, and surprisingly for a sub 5% beer this translates well to the mouth, at least early, but the weight does tail off. With a bit of reflection serviceable rather than anything special.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2012 On tap at MT Brewery on 25/7/12. An opaque black colour with a thin beige coloured head that laced reasonably well. Aromas dominated by roasted grain but with a hint of coffee. Taste of roasted grain. Full body beer. Short slightly bitter finish.

Bottle from the Brewery. Black in colour, with a creamy white head that disappears quickly. Hints of coffee malt aromas and tastes. Was expecting a bit more flavour, but a decent beer.

Pours black with creamy reddish brown head. Nice coffee flavours on the nose and palate. Nice caramel flavours too. Worth a try but go for the st Bridget if you’re only able to have one MT beer.

On tap at MT. Nice & black with a decent head. Nice aromas of roasted malts & hops. Tasty malt flavours, choc & caramel, balanced towards the malt, the hops take a back seat. Smooth finish. Really enjoyed this beer.

Dark ruby and a thick tan head that look appealing. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate and hops. Sweet and light mouthfeel. Quite a pleasing balance of hops & malts in this one. Good stuff.

330ml bottle. Vegemite black in colour with a rich tan creamy foam mountain sitting on top. Strong aromas of roasted malt and barley, with toffee and mocha undertones. Pours thick but is thin in the mouth and quite full flavoured with a long strong aftertaste.

Sample at MT Brewery. Pours almost black with a small white head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. Sweet mouthfeel and malty finish. A little too sweet for my palate but a decent Schwarzbier overall.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 winkle (466) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 22, 2009
On tap @ the Mount. Pretty much ticks all the boxes for a good schwarzbier. Maybe overplays the roast barley a touch in aroma and slightly higher in bitterness than I’d prefer - still a good seasional, and I’d enjoyed a more than few last visit.
