On Tap at the the Brauerei Mahlzmuhle in Koeln. Along with Paffgen, one of the two most distinctive and enjoyable Kolschs. Where Paffgen is hoppier, spicier; Muhlen Kolsch leans toward malt character. A twinge of malt in the body. Undertone of anise or perhaps softer; fennel. Pale yellow with a glint of copper.

(Mühlen Kölsch) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a glass tankard (still looking for my beer glasses after the moving), ABV 4.8% Crystal clear body, golden yellow in colour. Small white head, with good density, good retention too, leaving light lacing on the glass. Not much on the aroma, malts, grass, but all clean with nothing offensive. Nice taste though, the same as on the aroma but much more notable, nice bitterness on the finish and the aftertaste. Medium thin body, carbonation on good levels. Quite good, definitely thirst quenching and very drinkable.

Aroma of malt, grain, cardboard. Flavour is grainy, a little sweetness, with a light bitter finish. Not being a fan of Kolsch, this one did not change that view.

Lesser known Kölsch with crackling, yellowish white, not very stable head and clear golden colour. Aroma of sweetish pale malts, bit grainy, straw, young cheese, honey, green apple, some soapy hops. Light, crisp and clear ’pils malt’ taste, very lightly sweetish, smooth, fairly strong carbonation, minerals, late and mild hoppy finish. Okay Kölsch but not the most refined representative of the style.

On tap in some restaurant seeing the brewery was closed. Very pale yellow pour with white head. Aroma is grainy, light grassiness, very faint apple notes. Taste is grainy, light fruity sweetness, pleasant grassy finish. Light palate, light carbonation. Subtle and refreshing.

Bottled from some German kiosk in Koln, dated 08.04.14 BB 08.08.14, large sample, served in a shaker. Clear light yellow color, medium frothy white head. Aroma is grainy, slight wort, bit cardboard, bit spicy and grassy hop, slight buttery. Soft bitter taste, slight buttery. Bottled this style is almost always worse than from draft, but besides the slight cardboard its not that bad. Would love to see this (style) fresh and with dryhopping.
