MartinT (4458), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2005 The Lure:
An orange-blond coat surrounds quiet sweet pears and honey. Quite shy and unidimensional so far.

The Festivities:
A slick body, obviously full of residual fruit sugars since malt is barely perceivable, promotes sweet pear syrup and the occasional apple and banana. The base for this fruit beer is a simple blond ale, which makes it less interesting for me. Alcohol is well-hidden, the yeast maybe not so well, but all in all this is an unpretentious, straight-to-the-point fruit beer which will please the masses.
Transcendence:
Your neighborhood mega-grocery’s fruit pie. muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, USA Jun 6, 2006 500 ml bottle from Metro Joanette in Verdun, Quebec (May 2006), served a bit above fridge temperature in a La Chouffe tulip. Pours a pale amber/gold with lots of sticky bubbles sliding along the side of the glass, thin head and no lacing....stewed/baked very sweet pear aroma with touches of cinnamon, brown sugar, butterscotch, a faint underlying dry hay component, but really very little beer character though it’s not unpleasant as an isolated smell itself.....on the tongue, syrupy-sweet juiciness completely overpowers everything: there’s little to no malt here, certainly no hops evident, just old and tired pear and apple juice and a bit of honey, with an unpleasant metallic tang at the very finish....a bit more carbonation might have helped matters, but how much? Who cares? No more, please. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 17, 2005 First off, the bottle says "without aroma" which I was hoping would not be true. What a strange thing to print on the label of a fruit beer! In actual fact, it has a very sweet aroma of honey and mild pear fruitiness. Hazy yellow straw coloured body topped by shy, fizzy, white head that recedes rapidly to partial cover and ring. Sugary sweetness is offset by a tangy fruit salad of flavours - banana, pear, apple with some doughy yeast at the finish. Light body with agressive carbonation that stings the tongue. Somewhat slick in texture. Alcohol never apparent. Straight forward and fruity but although this really didn’t do it for me, the flavour grew on me, especially after the carbonation subsided a bit leaving it more about the sweet fruit. Lager glass, just above fridge temp. Bottle (Peluso, Jul-05). Lubiere (3410), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 13, 2004 At Festival Bières et Saveurs. Golden ale with a fruit and alcohol aroma with a touch of maple (???). Sweet pear juice with not much hops, but lots of candy sugar, almost like a Pinot. (Sept. 2004) HogTownHarry (3361), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Mar 26, 2007 Bottle (500ml). Via trade with Viper666. An 8% Québec beer made with pears? Why not. Pours like cider - oily gold with a fizzy white head. Smell is sweet - oh yeah, sweet baby - candy sugar, generic "tree fruit" and oxidized pear, maybe just a weensie hint of stale sweet white wine - like a fruit syrup / jelly shooter ... weirdly, I kind of like it. The taste is ... well again, cheap sweet white wine and pear syrup, mild, really, quickly diminishing and no aftertaste - I could get to like this. Syrupy, medium-thick body, quite sticky, mild alcohol and decent life to the mouthfeel, but not overwhelmingly fizzy - this is super sweet, but on a damp chilly evening (well, damp) it hits the spot.
