2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Third beer of my ’St. Patrick’s Day Stouts & Porters Mini-Tasting’. Yeah, I know it’s labeled a ’Fruit Beer’ but it is supposed to be a Stout with apples so it counts. Stout with apples...weird. Pours a dark ruby-brown with a spare fast diminishing tan head. We’re not off to a good start, I like my Stouts to at least have a decent head. Aroma of roasted malt and apple juice which, unfortunately, is not an awesome combination. Flavour: Ugh, it’s worse. Like an apple cider gone bad. Or a cheap cider mixed 70% to a cheap Stout’s 30%. I keep trying it but I’m not liking it more. Marks for trying something new but not something I’d get again.

pours clear light brown with a decent beige head, some retention. sour and sugary apples, bright red and sweet ones, light roastiness - faint malts. light pine and grassy notes - short finish. average carbonation, light body. sugary and slightly artificial apple but not horrible.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bouteille 341ml. Couleur brun sale, trouble, peu de mousse couleur sable. Arôme de pomme, de brandy. Goût de pomme, avec un arrière-goût de café. Carbonation moyenne-élevée, légère, est plus proche d’un jus de pomme que d’une stout.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass. 19JA12.
App.: Clear mahogany with a fair light tan head.
Aroma: Sorta muddy/murky wet dough, sour cherries, a little tang and funk, vaguely spicy, apple juice, apple skins, not very nice.
Palate: Medium body, prickly effervescence.
Flav.: Some chocolate and roasted malt notes, odd fruitiness, some berries, old apple juice, apple cider, a touch spicy, tangy and funky; sweet with basically no bitterness, messy fruit finish.
Oh, Clair de la lune, why have you failed me?

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a bottle, served into a flute. Dark brown, with reddish reflects. Does not look very cloudy, light passes through quite easily. Nice, thick white head with a medium level of retention. In mouth, has a very good carbonation. Tastes very sweet, yet is quite enjoyable. Obviously tastes of apples, but not as bitter as I would have expected (I was expecting green apple ; tastes more like sweet, red apple to me). Taste reminds me of a black velvet with apple cider. Has some acidity in post-taste, possibly due to the apple taste. Body would definitely benefit from being thicker, though, feeling it a bit too thin... All in all, I am really enjoying this one, and I actually would recommend it as more of a Summer ale, even though it is quite dark.
Can’t understand why its rating is so low, it is quite an enjoyable drink!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle - This brew smells of roast malt and green apples. It’s very dark brown with a light tan head. The flavor is sweet with loads of apples that also lend some tartness. It has a roasty finish and a medium body. This brew is certainly different, but I don’t get the hate. I think it’s pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated January 2007. This apple stout pours a dark colour, but with more red highlights than most stouts. Good mildly-tanned head with decent retention and beautiful creamy lacing. Light molasse nose with a small amount of sourness in the background. Hard to smell any apples at this level. Nice thick mouthfeel which is kind of oily. The taste is different, but not offensive. Start on a sour note, but hits the sweetness in the middle, where the apples are lightly tasted. Then, burnt and roasted malts show up in the aftertaste. I guess, not quite a stout (and by no means do they advertise it to be a stout). More, like a porter with light fruits juices thrown in.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
A very sweet beer with an overpowering taste of what seems like green apples. I can see some people hating this but I think some of the ratings are too low. I am happy I didn’t buy a 6 pack of this but it is not that bad either. It is an experimental beer that isn’t quite successful. I think an apple stout could work but the stout needs to be a bit stronger tasting and the apple taste should be milder so that the balance is better. Reminds me a bit of the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat in that the fruit additive is too strong and sweet to produce a good beer.

Bouteille 341 ml. 4.9%. Couleur brune très foncé presque noire. Arôme sucrée, chocolat et malt. En bouche, on goûte la pomme et le malt grillé sans amertume et assez sucrée. Assez particulière. Pas Top

0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Ridiculously old bottle? Part 1 of "mon beau-père veut être gentil avec moi". Not totally bad at first, maybe because of a somewhat creamy texture, but the intense apple sweetness hits after with no hoppiness whatsoever to balance. Yark...
