french tickler (457), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Apr 26, 2008 Hazy thick amber / dark orange poor with a thick frothy light brown head. Aromas of caramel malts, caramel, prunes, red grapes, raisins and burbon vanilla.... Nicely complexe. Mouthfeel is creamy and full bodied. Perfect balance between bitter and sweet... Low carbonation but ok for this type of brew. Flavors again are very complexe... a nice dark fruity explosion combined with a nice malty tone and hints of alcohol. Overall i am VERY impressed. Aromas and flavors are very evolutive as it gets to room temperature...
blankboy (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 18, 2007 Bottle shared with and courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy orange-ruby with a large lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty with light spices and caramel malt -- kind of like an average Unibroue beer. Flavour’s sweet with Belgian yeast, caramel malt, spices, alcohol, some fruit and a boozy bitter finish. Medium bodied. Surprisingly, this is a pretty good version of the style. HogTownHarry (3141), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 16, 2007 Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy, my bottle via trade with Viper666. Hazy amber-ruby with a massive creamy-foamy lasting beige head. Bone-dry sharp peppery spice/yeast aroma, a hint of oxidized apple cores, some sweet generic light malt - apples and alcohol in the finish. Tasted of fairly generic sweet brown sugar malt, lightly spiced, yeast character much like baking sweetrolls, apple and cinnamon with light alcohol in the finish - quite warming, reminded me of a light version of many of the Unibroue BSAs. Fairly thick, almost syrupy body, somewhat lacking in carbonation, very malty indeed; pretty decent, easy to drink - lacks a certain robustness, and the fruit character seems a bit off. Viper666 (402), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 3, 2007 Bouteille. A fully diminushing small fizzy off-white head that tops up a clear dark brown body. Moderate lacing. No particules. Many small bubbles. Aroma presents malt being moderate caramel and light molasses while hops are very faint. Yeast character is moderate fruitiness and earthy. (many deposit in the bottle, but i left it there) Also, there are heavy notes of brown sugar and evident traces of plum prune and raisin plus some woody tones. Initial flavor is moderate alcoholic while development tends to lead to a sugary warming effect. Finish is medium and alcoholic. Light to medium body... oily texture... Heavy lively carbonation...(too much to be good)
