Brown bottle, 341 ml, purchased on August 7 2007 at Le Grand Duc, savoured on August 22 2007; eye: amber with golden reflections, clear, no effervescence, a tiny ring of beige head, no lacing; nose: odours are faint, malt, smoke, cooked vegetables, slight rubber suggesting infection; mouth: a lot less tasty than my expectations for a scotch ale (but then what does the beer style on a beer label really means?), caramelized malt but the salt rapidly covers the sweetness, finale where a non-enjoyable acridness appears with a really slight presence of rubber, medium body, a bit thin, not much carbonation; overall: disappointing FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 341 ml, achetée le 7 août 2007 chez Le Grand Duc, savourée le 22 août 2007; oeil: ambrée avec des reflets dorés, claire, pas d’effervescence, un très petit anneau de mousse beige, pas de dentelle; nez : odeurs sont faibles, malt, fumée, légumes bouillis, très léger caoutchouc suggérant une infection; bouche : beaucoup moins goûteuse que mes attentes d’une scotch ale (mais que veux vraiment dire le style de bière indiqué sur l’étiquette?), malt caramélisé mais le sel vient rapidement faire disparaître le côté sucré, finale où une âcreté désagréable apparaît et sous laquelle se pointe un très léger caoutchouc, corps moyen, un peu mince, très peu carbonatée; en résumé : déçu

Bouteille. Couleur brun-rougeâtre, claire, mousse mince, mais reste présente. Arôme léger de cara, diacétyl, torréfié et légèrement fumé. Goût doux de caramel, finale en torréfaction, très atténué par contre. Corps moyen effervescence faible. Correct.

Peat smoke is strong in the aroma with an underlying grainy malt character and some cabbagey notes as wellas toffee, caramel, soy, chocolate and salt. Opaque muddy brown with low, off-white head that recedes to ring. Smokiness is strong up front. Flavour is quite salty with carmelized malt tones and some dark malt flavour and bitterness in the finish. Light, dry and over-attenuated with very little residual sweetness. Low carbonation, somewhat watery in texture. Tulip glass, allowed to warm from fridge temp. Bottle (Peluso, Jul-05).

Hazy reddish brown with floaties and a thin off-white head. Herbal caramel aroma, with yeasty notes, and , I agree with Martin, mint overtones, but more like chocolate mint. In mouth, muddy sweet malt with some light hops, dissipating quickly, very short in mouth. Starting to turn bad??? Maybe....

Reddish brown, it turned bright red when set against the light of day. Off-white head, lots of yeast floaties. Discreet caramel, herbal, grassy hops, with a yeasty signature that veers toward a minty freshness. A lot of the products churned out by this brewery have this aroma. I wouldn’t call it an infection, but it certainly doesn’t ring true to the style. A touch of smoke and roasty, but needs a bit more malt to hold it’s own. Aftertaste has no booze, no hops and and barely any residual sweetness.

Scotch ale? Not even close. Scottish ale perhaps? A pale one at best.

Robe brune auburn surmontée d’une légère mousse. Arômes de noix, de caramel et de malt. Saveurs de caramel, de levure.
