2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 kjc51478 (361) - Cologne, GERMANY - OCT 6, 2011
33cl Bottle. Appearance is clear, pinkish-red color with medium, fizzy head. Aroma is berries, fruit, general sweetness. Taste is the same - mostly the fruit coming through with some lemon but there is a subtle cereal malt note from the beer that peaks through occasionally. For a syrup-laden fruit beer, it wasn’t bad.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 EithCubes (4196) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Backlog rating from 14.06.2011. Bottle, MHD 24.01.2012. Too-sweet nose reminds of the titular berries bu in gummy form, a little dusty and chalky right out of the shoot. Bright ruby red pour with a super bright, light pink head, soapy. OK, I’m coming around on the nose that’s jacked up with Preiselbeere, for sure. Taste is mildly sweet but well-attenuated, decent base beer [I have come to appreciate Murauer, at least the Märzen, somewhat], lots of PB but still seems to resolve to that lime flavor I’ve been getting from all Mischgetränke lately. Medium body, crisp but a little fizzy aftertaste like a long drink. I have to say, either my standards have dropped in the last five years or the art of making a proper bottled Radler has developed more quickly in Austria than in Germany, b/c I’m actually liking all of the examples I’m trying these days. Nothing artificial-tasting here.
