mikey (323), farmington, Utah, USA Jun 6, 2007 Poured an obsidian black with a tan, creamy nitro head that lasts forever. The nose was very heavy with roasted malt notes. The flavor was roasty, with some espesso, coffee and chocolate notes. Oatmeal smoothness removes the sharp bitterness you’d expect from the dark grains. The hop bitterness flavor hide just below the roastiness keeping the aftertaste from getting too sweet. Murphy’s and Guiness can always be found side by side at your local pub, so comparisons are enevitable. I think I like Murphy’s a little better, though I do enjoy Guinness a lot. For me, the roasted malts and the oats in Murphy’s seems to give this stout a fresh and mellow taste. Exellent!
can8ianben (670), Pasadena, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 From a can with a floating widget (or is that just Guiness’s term?). Very creamy mouthfeel, much like a Guiness. Dark and rich, almost chewy. Not as complex as I’d like it to be. Thick foamy head, very dark in color, a light nuttiness to it, no hops, low carbonation, doesn’t get much better as it warms. penguinjive7 (67), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 21, 2008 Poured form the tap into a Murphy’s glass. Nick cascading effect, settling black with a thin white head. Lacing is excellent. Smell is mostly of roasted malts. The taste is the same as the smell with the addition of chocolate and a very faint hint of coffee. The carbonation was very light, even for being on-tap. It was very creamy and goes down nice and smooth.
This is an excellent pub brew. I would have to have some more of this to make a fair judgment, but as of now I think I would take this one over Guinness.

Scents of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt wth a slightly smoky aroma. Definitely tastes of a chocolate coffee - nice beer. SeanMacGC (102), Dublin, Ireland Nov 20, 2008 Draught. Pours a good dense black, though letting more light through than a Guinness (inevitable comparison). And decent slightly off-white head too. Rich on the nose, of chocolate and roasted malt and barley. Quite sweet (for a stout) on the palate, and a lighter mouthfeel (than Guinness). Very quaffable. joeyplush (78), Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2008 Enjoying a Murphy’s while listening to the WolfeTones with ARMed and some good friends. Pours a nice dark brown/black with a thick cream, off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Taste is sweetened coffee with hints of chocolate and roasted malt. Palate is long-lasting and enjoyable. An excellent beer!
