Draft. Black pour with a finger of off-white creamy head. Usual coffee and chocolate aroma. Taste is more roast. An okay mass produced stout.

One of my favourite mass produced beers/stouts. As someone who used to enjoy a smoke, but have seen the errors of my ways, I turn to this 500ml package of goodness to get that same satisfaction. Nowhere near the best stout on the market, but in my humble opinion, the best in its class, easily eclipsing Guiness

This was the first beer I ever tried at 9 years of age. This time, I’m drinking it on draught at Gus O’Connors, Doolin. Deep black with red tints and a typical creamy nitrogen head. The aroma is mild roasted malt. The flavour is pleasant and more interesting than the aroma, with roasted malt and touches of coffee and cocoa. I distinctly remember thinking it tasted like mushy peas at 9 years old (in a bad way) but I’m not picking up on this tonight--even after five pints. Typically dry and very lightly bitter Irish stout. More interesting than Guinness. What a journey beer is. It’s only a game, but it’s the only game.

Gets off to a great start with a thick and creamy appearance. After that, it's pretty inoffensive with very little taste.

50 cl can from Tallinna Kaubamaja (€ 1,70). Pours brown, appearing pitch black in the glass, and ruby against light. Head as expected - extremely thick, creamy, retaining, somewhat lacing. The widget makes it look great. Nose is stale roasted malts first and foremost, then mild chocolate, faint caramel and some coffee. Taste begins with some molasses dripped in water, a robust yet modest sweetness that then quickly turns into cold coffee and quite bitter earthy hops, ending in very dry roasty malts and some bitterness... might even say it’s faintly sour. Dry - even ashy - palate, mouthfeel velvety smooth, body very light, carbonation non-existent. Watery. Not a big fan but it’s good every once in a while when nothing better at sight.

Catching up on ratings......... On tap at an Irish pub in Garmisch. Pours pitch black with a huge off white head. Honestly, I didn’t get much for aroma or taste. It was pretty plain to me. I like the stouts with the bursting flavors. This just didn’t have it.

Gedronken van de tap in Murphys irish pub. Een lekkere stout, niet bijzonder, lijkt op Guinness. Gebrande mout, caramel. Lekker!

0,5 tölkki@ Jätkäsaari. Kermaisen mokan värinen paksu vaahto, samea todella tummanruskea. Tuoksussa soijakastiketta, paahteista mallasta, ruista. Maussa hiukan palaneen paahteista mallasta, rautainen jälkimaku, pikkuisen kitkeryyttä, humalaa. Odotin täyteläisempää.

500ml nitro can poured in an ordinary glass. A: Pours a huge creamy fizzy beige head. Impressive retention (it lasts for long time): The Nitro device really works. The color is a deep black but not completely opaque S: Huge roasted malts in the nose. Followed by caramel and some hints of dark chocolate T: Strong on roasted malts. A bit sweet upfront but, in overall, a dry and bitter taste, as expected. A bit metallic with a light earthy hoppy presence too M: Light body. Low carbonation and a nice and mild bitter aftertaste D: High. The bitter aftertaste and the low ABV improves a lot its drinkability. [ BA Review @ 2/26/2010 ]
