Pours a dark brown with a thin head, quite as strong flavour even for a brown ale. A good beer.

Pours a dark brown with a creamy looking but slightly fading head. Compared to the tap the bottled version packs alot more in the aroma. Deeply roasted malt with some smokiness dominate, a little chocolate, very nice. Doesnít over do the roasted malt in the taste like some brown ales, nice coffee and chocolate overtones compliment a rich but slightly sweet roasted malt base. Thick mouthfeel for a brown ale and light to moderate carbonation. Grassy hops mild bitterness and hazelnut on the back end. Really good brown ale, one of the best Iíve had.

Pours a cloudy brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, nutty and roasty notes with some hops. Taste is light to medium sweet leading to moderate bitter finish. Nice one.

Pours a dark brown with red highlights, thick persistent tan head. Aroma of crystal and chocolate malts, big load of fruity late hops. Taste as aroma would suggest, big malty sweetness up front balanced with good bitterness and lots of hop flavour. Full malty mouth feel cleaned by late bitterness leaving you begging for more. Fantastic beer!

I think fresh this one would be a cracker. A few months in the bottle and I do believe it has lost some of its edge.
Cap jettisons off joined by a burst of pent up CO2, and then the beer followed - so many gushers of lateís starting to make me wonder if itís me!? Quickly into two glasses to absorb that angry carbonation. A very slow settle produces a shimmering ruby beer thatís just shy of bright. Obscenely bitter, towering white head needs scooping off with a spoon as itís resistent to falling back into the ale. Robust malt driven nose reminiscent of roasted nuts, chocolate, sodden earth and treebark, and stripped pinewood with little glitters of nutmeg spice, kelp, vine-clippings and lime zest. Raw and unabashed, weedy and piney hops dominate in the mouth, just to shake things up. Meaty, chunky body that is smooth for the most. Light spritz upfront with balanced grainy, gritty malt to the aggressive hopping. Long, woody and rough finish with evident alcohol is a little off from the almost harmonious flavours on the palate. I really liked it, but something didnít quite push it over the line for me. Holding out for a new batch for a re-rate!!! (33cL, 6.5% ABV, BB 12/03/12, Cellarbrations Carlisle)
