Bottle 640ml - Pours hazy orange with a clean white head. Sweet perfume aroma with a violet flower aroma with sweet caramel malt and fruit (reminds me of fruit salad sweets), citrus came out stronger as the beer warmed up. Sharp bitter/dry flowery taste up front which levels out to a lingering dry finish, which last quite a while. Moderate carbonation with a creamy mouthfeel. Really liked this!

Enormous, mountainous white head recedes ever so slow to frost over the glass. Hazy, dull, sandy orange with very fine, very sparse carbonation. The aroma is candyish; candied pear, candied guava, candied lemon and cantaloupe with nuances of yeast, bread dough, Triple sec and fresh morning sap. First sip shot a dart of piercing acidity into the olfactories, weird! Second brings mellowed fruit punch with boozy alcohol and fairy floss all mixed in a bowl. Its little complexities of raw spices, bitter herbs, toasted malt and vine clippings keep it interesting. Its mildly buttery, yeasty and oily in feel but this seems to work. The body isn’t heavy, isn’t light and the excited bite of carbonation sees it race across the palate with great ease. Quite sweet upfront, tangy along the edges before drying out somewhat as expected. Drinks too easily. Just seem to miss that all important slow sipping quality. But f%$k, who cares.... From the bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Slight bubblegum and fruits on the nose - namely apples, banana and orange. Much of the same in the taste with a touch of pepper. Not bad and very sessionable. Just not memorable

From a stubby this poured an orangey golden body with short head. Passionfruit and apples on the nose. Taste is similar with some cloves and a touch of pepper otherewise don’t pick up on the alcohol and drank easy enough.

330ml bottle. Geat eye catching labels makes it stand out on the shelf. Two fingers of crisp white foam cover a golden amber base. Fruity aroma but hard to poick. Rockmelon in the flavour which is a bit unusual but tasty. Almost a dessert like beer.

A selection of Murrays beers on AF1GP day. Punk Monk’s hazy golden colour and pillowy head looks inviting. Spicy, fruity and sweetness there too. Another Gem from Murrays. Yay.

On tap at BeerDeLuxe. Exceptional beer. Aromas of apple, caramel, dough, and a hint of flowers. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and very long length. Palate is velvety, and full bodied. Dark yellow, with a frothy head.

Tap at Beer Deluxe. It’s funny what Belgian yeast strains do to hops. Doesn’t matter what hop varieties you use, they all end up tasting the same. Houblon Chouffe, this... they all end up tasting like Hommelbier. That said, this is my type of beer. Polystyreney, coconutty hop-phenol blend with touches of green melons in the back. Good custardy malt flavour, but it fattens and sweetens out on the back palate with lowish carbonation rather than driving through like the best examples. Makes me wish they still made Sassy Blonde.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2011 Bottle at Archive. $14.50. Yes that’s right. Nose is stunted bubblegum and cinammon. There is a fair bit going on first sight - banana, bread, light fruit, but as it warms the alcohol tends to be more apparent and distracts from the flavour. A Belgian strong pale with a interesting hop bite to finish. Solid.

From a 330 ml bottle on 11/3/2011. Pours a slightly cloudy golden colour with a substantial head. Has a very pleasant sweet floral, fruity aroma with that distinctive belgian yeast note. The flavours include sweet citrus fruits (particularly mandarin), sweet belgian malt, spices and a touch of pepper at the end. This is an unusal and refreshing take on a summer ale (the use of the word ’unorthodox’ on the packaging is definitely appropriate), though you’d need to be careful about quaffing more than one, given its well hidden strength. Another fine beer from Murrays.
