Murray’s Punk Monk carries the classic estery and lightly phenolic Belgian yeast character from the blend of authentic Belgian ale yeasts used. The body of the beer is complex with round biscuity German malt flavours initially filling the mouth before a surprisingly dry, summery finish for a beer of this size. It is this dry finish that keeps it as a summer ale – very moreish and drinkable - but dangerous at 7.5% ABV.

Also marking it as unusual for a Belgian style is its spicy late hop character. The beer isn’t a hop driven style by any means but there is a stronger presence than in most Belgian styles which adds to the overall complexity of the beer.

Pours a clear gold with a very thick creamy white head. A sweet aroma with flowery hops, orange and pepper along with the sweet yeast, also some apple, melon, bread and leather. Almost creamy texture, I’d say it’s on the lighter side of medium carbonation. Initially tastes sweet, floral and spicy, with a peppery finish and a bit of dry bite in the end, which is the only real indicator of the higher alcohol content. It’s unorthodox and it’s very enjoyable!

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a bubbly off-white head. The aroma has notes of fruits, yeast, malt, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, yeast, fruits, and hay, leading to a dry spicy finish. The body is light.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours golden with a slight haze and a lacing off-white head. Overripe fruit in the nose with a spicy and slightly yeasty edge. Rich body, heavy on the yeasty fruitiness. Has a dry and almost vinous touch - like a dry Chardonnay. Ends dry if not exactly hoppy. Good one. 190412

Belgian attributes are quite obvious, a good beer - just need to work out best time to have it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour a straw blond color with nice carbonation with light white head. The nose has a barnyard funk on it with hints of floral hops, orange skin. It has a medium-light mouth feel. The body reminds me of a triple with the flavor of a light saison but a lager snuck into the keg and ruined everything. Tastes of light orange, a hint of pepper with a dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy yellow with a small pale head. Aroma is citrus, coriander, fresh cut grass, cilantro, jasmine. Light and flowery on the palate, on the sweet side with a bit of hop bite in the aftertaste. Taste is apricot, orange marmalade, heather honey, hint of grapefruit. This beer is trying to be too many Belgian styles all at once and is having an identity crisis that confuses my taste buds.

Bottle 640ml - Pours hazy orange with a clean white head. Sweet perfume aroma with a violet flower aroma with sweet caramel malt and fruit (reminds me of fruit salad sweets), citrus came out stronger as the beer warmed up. Sharp bitter/dry flowery taste up front which levels out to a lingering dry finish, which last quite a while. Moderate carbonation with a creamy mouthfeel. Really liked this!
