Murray’s Punk Monk carries the classic estery and lightly phenolic Belgian yeast character from the blend of authentic Belgian ale yeasts used. The body of the beer is complex with round biscuity German malt flavours initially filling the mouth before a surprisingly dry, summery finish for a beer of this size. It is this dry finish that keeps it as a summer ale – very moreish and drinkable - but dangerous at 7.5% ABV.

Also marking it as unusual for a Belgian style is its spicy late hop character. The beer isn’t a hop driven style by any means but there is a stronger presence than in most Belgian styles which adds to the overall complexity of the beer.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a bubbly off-white head. The aroma has notes of fruits, yeast, malt, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, yeast, fruits, and hay, leading to a dry spicy finish. The body is light.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours golden with a slight haze and a lacing off-white head. Overripe fruit in the nose with a spicy and slightly yeasty edge. Rich body, heavy on the yeasty fruitiness. Has a dry and almost vinous touch - like a dry Chardonnay. Ends dry if not exactly hoppy. Good one. 190412

330ml bottle. Geat eye catching labels makes it stand out on the shelf. Two fingers of crisp white foam cover a golden amber base. Fruity aroma but hard to poick. Rockmelon in the flavour which is a bit unusual but tasty. Almost a dessert like beer.

Bottle. Orange with an inch of white head that fades to a coat. Quite low bead. Aroma of mandarins, light dough, white pepper. There’s fruit in the taste but there’s more spice - some coriander and cloves as well as the pepper - than suggested by the aroma and the dry finish rushes right up. Alcohol is indeed dangerously well-hidden. Deep and meaningful is neither promised nor delivered: it’s just fun.

From the bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Slight bubblegum and fruits on the nose - namely apples, banana and orange. Much of the same in the taste with a touch of pepper. Not bad and very sessionable. Just not memorable
