strings (327), Sydney, Australia Sep 26, 2007 Bottle. Quite tasty. Surprisingly, the sassiness is delivered as promised. Nice clean taste, with some sharp spicy aromas. The weird thing about this beer is how easy it goes down, yet it doesn’t really seem watery, but actually quite full-bodied. I think I’d almost finished the bottle before I knew... not sure if that was a good thing or bad, but seemed ok in this instance.
gam (618), brisbane, Australia Apr 6, 2008 Good frothy head, carbonation good, misty orange colour.Aroma apricor, peach, hops .Flavour grapefruit, citrus peel, peach, melon, nice bitterness,as good a blond I,ve tasted, flavours are strong, great aroma, all round very nice finish is bitter and citrus, stonefruit. Pyobon (178), Sydney, Australia Apr 6, 2008 Bottle. Hazy amber with fair white head. Little aroma, hops with a hint of vanilla. Medium palate with light carbonation. The flavour simply doesn’t work for me. There are two aspects that do not work together. On the one hand there is some interesting and quite complex spicy flavours - bitter orange, raisins, perhaps apricots and even pepper. On the other hand there is quit a bit of bitterness, which is partially hops, but there is an unpleasant metallic / phenolic edge. These just don’t sit well together. Also, the complex spiciness goes well, in stronger Belgian ales with the rich sweet maltiness, but that balancing flavour is lacking in this beer. It’s an interesting beer, and not bad, just it doesn’t work for me. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Feb 28, 2008 Hop malt aroma with some bubble gum. Red yellow orange colour with poor head and lacing. Sweet malt flavour. Thin palate. TimE (1066), Tokyo, Japan Jan 9, 2008 Hazy golden color, tropical fruit and caramel in nose. Tropical fruits dominate the mouth, but a solid malt backbone. Refreshing tropical fruit finish. Fairly enjoyable for the style. Another winner from this great brewery. voota (754), Melbourne, Australia Jan 7, 2008 Looks great, not too blonde, but it has a beautiflly formed head and lace on a copper body. Aroma of vanilla, spice, caramel, and some mild metal and phenols. Fullish body for the advertised abv. lots of spice again in the flavour, very silky mouthful and a bit of sweetness in the finish which melds beautifully with the vanilla spice. I absolutely love Styrian goldings and this beer showcases it as well as any other I’ve tasted, I’d love to try an amped up version of this... maybe thats the grand cru, should try that I guess. Wonderful stuff from murrays, could drink this til’ dawn.
