Murray’s Whale Ale is a refreshing wheat beer with a twist. Its high percentage of malted and unmalted wheat and aromatic late hop profile gives a unique take on a session strength ale. A classic light body, creamy mouthfeel and refreshing citris flavour. This is balanced with assertive late hopping, giving a fresh, light tropical fruit aroma and cleansing dry finish.

Murray’s Whale Ale is light gold in colour and lightly filtered to give it a sparkling appearance.

Summer in a glass!

On tap at Murray’s, pours a clear pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out a crisp biscuity malt and a touch of hops. Flavour is clean with not much going on, including crisp crackery malt. A touch of dry hoppiness. Clean and smooth, but pretty boring. Meh.

Really happy with my first two beers, very disappointed with the second two. So I will rate on the first two and assume something was wrong with the second batch. Two 330ml bottles poured into a 660ml plus weizen glass. Not much of an aroma, and missing the banana scent associated with bavarian wheat beers. Don’t get the citrus much either. Light golden colour reminiscent of a macro larger. Head poured lower than expected and then fell away even quicker. Some lacing on glass, loads of bubbles coming up the centre. Taste was moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Palate is confusing in that if you sip - it comes across watery, but with a decent mouthful it has a creaminess as you swirl it around in your mouth. Very short on palate length which is a blessing. Comparatively this is to a Hefeweizen what a (good) light beer is to a larger - almost right, but somehow just not quite the full deal. Buy a Victus and be happy instead.

Disappointed with the flavour. Cloudy and adequate carbonation. Just didn’t cut it after an IPA earlier

Bottle at bine, gold coast. Little hazy deep golden color, white head. Aroma is fresh hoppy and malty. Fresh fruity and hoppy taste, not much wheat on it.

330ml bottle into glass. Sweet nose. Hazy light amber beer with scummy head. Light bodied with a short lightly citric finish. Just OK, nothing more.

Sour nose, slight yeasty mouth feel, not a lot of flavour, sweet finish. Ordinary beer.

Carbonic acid gas is high. That is most thing that I don’t like. Except that, everything is enough all.

This beer is great if you get a good one. The one in front of me has been holding about 8mm of head with lacing down the glass, cloudy as f**k with a nice smooth feel in the mouth and tons of great flavour. I have not tried other beers based off an American style wheat beer and do not really get into the Belgium style Whitbeers, but a good bottle of this is totally moresome and this has now become my main quaffing beer. Unfortunately I have bought quite a few of them that taste like those that others have reviewed here (thin, sour, over gassed etc.) I have emailed the guys at Murrays regarding this because they have a nice beer that has been let down by consistency problems. I hope they can get this right because this beer could earn itself a much higher score from everyone if they could shake these problems.

Bottle in Brisbane, August 2014. A bit hazy golden with a white head. Soft with some citrus, light bread and some wheat. Also some hay. Nothing special but drinkable.
