3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Niksko (109) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 7, 2013
Bottle from King and Godfrey. Pours a dark black/brown with loads of foamy dark brown head. Aroma is coffee, cough medicine, port, plums and some light tropical fruit. Taste is more cough medicine, plum, brandy, with some coffee on the finish and a mild bitterness. Mouth feel is very viscous and sticky. As it heats up, the aroma is slightly more floral and the alcohol burns off a little and the coffee finish intensifies and becomes more smoky. Overall it definitely needs to warm up to become more drinkable. Really enjoyable and complex.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jonnyguns (384) - - FEB 27, 2013
Bottle from mane liquor. Jet black oily pour with a nice tanned chocolate head. Nose loaded with intense roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Fair bit of booze in there as well. Taste has is massive on the espresso and dark choc! Licorice tones combining with a huge hop bitterness! More booze in the taste. Massive beer. A bit too harsh for me. This would age very well.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Palme (2234) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 13, 2013
0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a near black one with a nice brown chocolate top. It smells of green banana, wet cardboard, a bit "wild" I guess you can say and slightly coffee-like also. A bit, hmm, let’s say strange and not to impressive. Definitely not what I was expecting from a beer of this caliber. The flavor is a bit acidic, quite different from a dark wild thing. It’s definitely over carbonated. Foaming sensation in the throat with some coffee, soft chocolate and something slightly herbal. 26.12.2012
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 buzz_and_hum (144) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 10, 2013
Pours pitch black with HUGE amounts of brown head; too much head really. Rich chocolate ice cream aroma. Body is very light for the weight of bitter rum’n’raisin that follows. I guess you could call the body "silky" but the amount of head and lightness of the body means that despite the darkness of the flavours and colours it doesn’t *feel* like a stout, let alone an imperial one. It’s good, but not quite there. But, mmm, in the meantime the very rich chocolatey, creamy aftertaste is very drinkable. A winner on everything but palate.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ClubGonzo (2694) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 27, 2012
Bottle from trade with fletchfighters, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew on Christmas Tasting 2012. Pours a pitch black body with a huge bubbly light khaki head. Aroma is black berries, ashes, coffee, hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is coffee, chocolate, medicinal bitter herbal tones, hints of licorice, wood and ashes. A bit strange, and it also seems over-carbonated and fizzy. Not among the best, hope it’s a bad bottle although it didn’t seem to be actually infected.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ughsmash (6668) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 20, 2012
Bottled. Poured very deep brown with a short, well-retained dark tan head. The aroma picked up a nice blend of toasted chocolate and coffee notes, with fresh earthy spice and rye accents.. warm and welcoming. The flavor found a very heavy base of mocha and lesser licorice, with lively, fresh pine resin and floral bitterness around.. quite hoppy on the finish over more warm chocolate and coffee.. some alcohol warmed the belly, but not 10% worth. Heavy-bodied with great balance between rich malts and fresh, complimentary hoppage.. smooth feel across the middle.. really good stuff!

Pours black with dark chocolate head. Aroma is piney hops and faint hints of coffee. Flavour is thick bitter chocolate. Too heavy on the bitterness but otherwise spectacular
