""""Inspired by the great stouts favoured by Russian Imperial Court, Murray’s “Wild Thing” Imperial Stout is a beer fit for a Czar. A massive, intense drinking experience. The colour is black. Totally black. The heart of darkness. Impossible to see through even when held up to the light – nothing insipid about this beer. Aromas of strong dark chocolate, a little fruitiness from the hops and yeast and some rumminess from the alcohol. The flavour is an intense hit of mocha – bitter dark chocolate bordering on coffee. Some malt sweetness but an aggressive hop bitterness and roast grain bite to balance. And then there’s the mouthfeel… Full bodied is an understatement. Massive mouthfillling malt that almost overwhelms, before the freight train of the bitterness from the hops and the roast acidity kicks in to clean up the palate. A tiny batch of a huge beer – only 1100 bottles brewed. A beer to savour if you dare!""""

On tap at Biero. Full marks, I absolutely love the slightly salty taste. Aromas of coffe, butter, chocolate, mussels, with hints of alcohol. Taste has a sweet start, with salty notes, and bitterness taking over for a very long finish. Palate is velvety, and full bodied. Black, with a frothy off-white head.

Tap at The Local Taphouse Sydney - Thoroughly impressed - not at all heavy but not thin - kinda toned down Rogue Double Choc Stout (which ain’t no bad thing) - alcohol invisible - bit of mocha - if this beer was a girl, she’d be a beautiful shy Goth girl.

It’s Black. It has rich dark chocolate and coffee roasted malt, some sweetness and dry grain thats matched perfectly by the hop bitterness, some alcohol presence from the 10% stated on the somewhat ordinary label. Dont need a flash label as this beer does its own talking. Purchased a case 14.10.10 and most will go to cellar for a year or so [maybe]. Sensational RIS get some.

330ml bottle. Pours as black as coal and just as thick. Great dense coffee coloured head and big rich chocolate aroma with vanilla and aniseed. Thick in the mouth and oh so good. This is all beer and more.

330ml bottle. Mane liquor. Everything that I would ever want in an imperial stout! Nothing I write is going to do it justice, if ur a self confessed beer geek give it a run and you won’t be disappointed!!

Jet black from a 375ml bottle, from IGA Yarra Glen. Earthy hops, caramel and roasty notes, all battle it out for dominance in the aroma. Palate is super rich and smooth. Flavour starts out just like chocolate, then the slightly astringent roastyness comes through, finally the bitterness comes out too play. Overall this beer is great, the high abv is barely noticeable, only present in my ability to type.

2012/2013 editions tasted. Pours a jet black with an impressive tan head. So black light doesn’t travel through it. Aroma of coffee, caramel, liquorice and some dark sweet fruit. Flavour is cocoa, dark malt and just a hint of the liquorice and stonefruit to boost this. One of the most impressive beers I’ve had

Bottled: I’m a sucker for a RIS and this one is a beauty. Very similar to the Porter (as Mullet pointed out) with a little added complexity and a touch more rum in the flavour. Really creamy palate, perhaps a touch too sweet in the finish is the only quibble I have with it, but bloody nice on a cool evening in front of a fire.
