3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (7040) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 15, 2008
Thank you Maria for this new release. This is an imperial sweet/milk stout. It is listed as an imperial stout on the bottle. The label honours some Norweigan director with giant chess pieces. It pours black and has a huge sweet and smoothness to it, with chocolate.

Huge head. Aroma has roasted malt, ripe fruits, caramel and coffee notes. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. A bit watery for the style. But still ok.

Bottle: Pitch black, presumably clear, stable tanned creamy head, dark malt, dried fruits, molasses and a tinge of port-wine in the aroma; moderate to full bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; some raisins in the dryish bitter-hoppy finish. Real good example.......
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 boboski (1095) - Alabama, USA - NOV 14, 2007
Mid-sized khaki head, very slow descension, creamy with fat bubbles. The body is very dark brown/near black, opaque, medium density. Deep violet hints are probably an illusory aftereffect of living room lighting. The nose is very sweet but retains a clarity of adequate roasted malts, hints of marshmallow creme, caramel, blueberry esters - something that seems more and more common with western European robust dark beers. Alcohol is mild. No evident flaws, but also nothing that makes this especially memorable. Light notes of mild chocolate, cream and coffee are superceded by fresh wood and vanilla, with touches of musty grapeskin notes, possibly Botrytis cinerea. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and altogether enjoyable if not a little understated for this claimed style. Astringency is very, very high. Roastiness is moderate. Caramel dominates chocolate while fruit smothers just about everything else. The finish is bittersweet(but that adds up quickly) and lightly woody, dark fruit notes and heavier chocolate hanging around a bit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, parching and has low-mild carbonation. A back and forth motion between oily slickness and watery interludes is strange.

Courtesy boboski. Pours very dark brown with a medium, quickly disappearing light brown head. Smells of big roast, some chocolate, definitely get some blueberry in there too, which I didnt get till Bobo said it out loud. The flavor was medium bodied, almost lightly sweet, with some dark fruits, roast and chocolate characters. Definitely could use a little more body to it, but the flavor is there. Quite a bit going on, not boring at all. Maybe a little fruity and sweet for my taste of an imperial stout, but still pretty good.

Bottled.Aroma has roast, some licorice and coffee. Black coloured with a brown, thin head. Taste is sweet and has chocolate bitterness, some rye, coffee and licorice. Bit unbalanced, but nice.
