TheEnemy (387), Chicago, USA Oct 28, 2007 On tap.
Pours a cloudy chestnut-brown with a tightly packed head that seems unusual for an English brown (and the commercial description gives fair warning of a more “American” degree of carbonation). Aroma is nutty and strangely alcoholic. Flavor is muted but shows some fruity esters, lightly toasted grain, a nice dose of clean malt and a moderate hop bitterness. Medium-bodied and a rather lively palate for the style, again owing to the “American” level of carbonation. A subtle and well-balanced beer, and a pretty good representative of the style. Nice.
incutrav (533), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Dec 26, 2007 Fairly think body, light brown color. Some good malt flavor and caramel. Pretty good brown ale very similar to NG Nut Brown and obvisously the S.S. Skyview (3068), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Aug 5, 2007 Available on draught at the Hayward Eatery brewpub in Hayward, Wisconsin. Pours a clear brown amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a film, white ring and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, lightly roasted nuts, a touch of smoke and flowery hops. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium bodied, creamy and smooth with flavors of caramel malt, with a touch of toffee. Finish is slightly sweet, light and then a clean cut aftertaste with no bitterness or hop dry flavors.
