matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Feb 27, 2009 341 ml bottle froma trade with jessem. pours very dark brown with a mid tn head. very nice roast malt aroma with some vanilla, quite inviting. the flavour isnt quite as good. its a little bland, some roast malt, a touch of smoke, but overly thin. the palate is to thin and without the body you are let down after the delightful nose. its a passable brown ale but one that ill pass on in the future. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Feb 25, 2009 341ml bottle from a fresh sixer, from the LCBO. Pours out a nice dark ruby red/brown with a medium mocha head. Aroma: Dry roast, lots of it, metallic, undertone of sweet caramalt and toffee, very nice. Flavour: Decently complex for a 5% beer, layers of the aforementioned characteristics, quite flavourful and closer to a porter really than a brown ale. At the very least this is a highly robust brown ale in all its aspects. A small hint of vanilla is definitely present, riding along a very sweet wave of the malt body. Very well done, glad to get a fresh sample of a solid Ontario brew. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Oct 3, 2008 Draught @ Volo. Dark brown with red tint. Malty, mild, with minerals in the nose. Solid smell. Thin and mild body. Coffee notes. Clean and good even if not much going on. Sessionable. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Sep 17, 2008 Draught at Volo, September 2008. Poured black/dark brown, no head. Aromas of caramel and molasses through the malt. Mouthfeel is light and a bit watery. The flavour was very short lived, very little finish: malted caramel, coffee. No complexities. yarry (370), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Aug 23, 2008 341ml bottle, 5% a/v
Pours opaque black with a small tan head. Smells very nutty and malty with the kent goldings hinting at the back. The taste is pretty malty which then turns into a nutty flavor which continues on to a very nice deep coffee. This beer is pretty badass. The mouthfeel is very full and rich and the aftertaste nice. I really like it. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jul 30, 2008 (bottle) dark brown with tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is roast caramel malt. If i didnt know i would think this is a porter. Very small beige head, a slightly fruity aroma, with some roasted malt, and a touch of hops. Smoky flavour, more roasted malt, and some nice hops in the finish. Smooth in the end, wow, i’m very impressed! I’ve had a few of this breweries beers, and they are pretty subpar, but this is very nice.
