3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sample pack bought, 355ml bottle poured dark dark brown to almost black, medium head, average carbonation. Aroma is chocolate, earthy, musty, all in one, strange. Taste, chocolate, coffee roast dark. Texture is oily, creamy, finish is strait up coffee/chocolate linger. Not bad overall, I like.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Single can purchased from an LCBO in Ottawa, Ontario on 06/06/2012. Colour: Very dark brown, if not black with low-ish lightly browned head. Nose: Wave after wave of rich milk cocoa is the most redeeming quality, but its not without an odd scent of glue, and a whiff of grandma’s perfume. Taste: Medium sweet, medium-light bitter, medium-light sour. Mmmm...no skipping a beat for the milk chocolate, as it comes on immediately in the mouth. A grape-tartness mid palate. Highly roasted malt late and a savory long finish. Sweeter than your average dark but not to the deteriment of quality!

473ml can. Pour produces minimal head - lets just call it lacing. Smells slightly sweet like chocolate. Rich brown (Lovibond 36). Tastes amazing! So complex - dark chocolate, hops, espresso, caramel. It's all working marvelously together. Perfect carbonation. Nice balance.

473 mL can. Bitter chocolate and espresso notes on the nose, burnt sugar, toast and licorice laced malt. Pours a great brown/black color with a full blotchy white/brown head. Full bodied and sweet, roasty bitter finish with plenty of fizz. Surprisingly clean finish and taste. A nice dark.

Can courtesy of John at Half Time, which I brought totasting at Max’s for Sam’s visit. Pours a dark black with a thin to medium sized tan head. Smells of paper and roast. Light coffee and dirty things. Coffee, but watered down and greasy. Finishes up with some roast and watered down cocoa. Meh.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle shared at the NY Meet the TURD tasting; thanks j12601. Pours a dark, thin brown. Aroma of coffee, nuts, and band aid. Slightly sour and watery. Moderate nutty malt flavor. Slight strawberry in the finish to go with dark nutty malt. Odd and a bit off.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated August 2004. Poured a deep amber colour with a beautiful creamy beige head that settled quickly. Left a small amount of lacing. Smelt malty with hints of molasse and tuna (yes... tuna - I know that does not sound pleasant, but it did not ruin the nose). The flavour was matly caramel / coffee with a smooth bitter start and a dry finish. Beats the hell out of Newcastle’s english brown ale.
