Radek Kliber (3302), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 13, 2007 Bottle from The Beer Store (Scarborough)
Deep gold with light hints of amber, smallish white top.
Dusty cardboard, creamy diacetyl aroma with faint grassy hop notes. (Please note that this beer was fresh)
Oily, creamy with grape like aftertaste. Malt work was shallow that shows signs of presence at very finish. Poor work, expected cleaner lager. Quality control issues? Fix beer its ironic name indeed .
CapFlu (3273), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Apr 5, 2004 (Bottle) I knew this beer existed but it took some searching to find it - especially up here in Ottawa. I find it somewhat depressing to read about the Greek history because I thought this would be a German Helles - Hell, I didn't even know the Greeks had a Hellas! Pours a large, yellow, foamy head and a highly-carbonated, orange-amber body. Tinny nose with a lactic undertone. Flavour is more forgiving - still tinny, yet an initial tartness changes into a mild malt that works the tastebuds then a creamy finish. I don't know how closely this is supposed to resemble a German Helles but I prefer the Bavarian cousin more. Lubiere (3231), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 30, 2006 Bright golden lager with a thick collapsing white head. Smells like the salt from the Aegean sea (or at least, a bit salty and malty). In mouth, crisp malt with good hops in finish, but also, some metallic iodine notes. Medium bodied. HogTownHarry (3186), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 7, 2006 Bottle (341ml). Thanks to GregClow for this one. Gold with a diminishing white head. Some very light roast malt with a lot of funky hops, I guess they’re UK/euro hops, there’s an unpleasant funky/vegetal smell here too. Taste - pretty standard sweet eurolager - grain, honey, sharp dry hops - ehh. Mouthfeel is lightly fizzy and lightly astringent - would be fine with food, but I’ve had this beer before, methinks. jerc (3114), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 26, 2004 Crisp yellow body with a moderate white head. Slight notes of vague fruit and cereal, grains in the aroma. Sweetish grainy flavour. Quite quaffable, but not particularly exciting. Reminds me a bit of how I remember Big Rock Kold being.
