3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Copper body, nice visible carbonation, small white head. Aroma: Citrus, grain, yeast, mango, nice and clean, leafy hops. Flavour: Mild pine, hops and grain, some hints of cereal but it’s overwhelmingly refreshing, mild alcohol, grain and grass. Lovely. Well done.

A great beer and a pleasant surprise. Tried once at C’est What and once from a retail six-pack. Pleasant light citrus aroma, a ton of flavour and round in the mouth. Crisp, a little fruity but good bitterness to balance, and interesting length. Really nice IPA.

bottle into footed tulip. deep golden colour, large white head. Lots of hops in this one; the citrus and pine flavours are nicely balanced. Just enough malt to off-set the generous hops. Quite a nice IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl bottle, Mulmur, ON, Canada. Hazy pale amber, thick frothy head. Intense citrus and pine aroma with some caramel and brown sugar in the background. Sweet, then overtaken with a mouth-filling spice, although not too overpowering. Long finish of resin and butterscotch.

Alright! An easily available IPA that ranks with the best I have ever had.
Rich bright gold with a pretty small and not very persistent head. Smells great - heavy on the citrus along with a dense piney scent that (excuse the poeticism) reminds me of the woods around Muskoka! Hops with pine that is in a good battle with citrus in a strong base. A full flavoured, full bodied brew that finishes with a lengthy lingering bitterness on the tongue.
In the past, I have given Muskoka beers the benefit of the doubt - I love their location and have dropped in at the brewery on a couple of occasions. But by and large, their beers were decent but not worth pursuing when out of cottage country.
Mad Tom however is an absolutely amazing IPA. It will be my go-to beer for the summer and for as long as it is available.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2013 6-pack from the LCBO. This stuff is great! Pours golden and cloudy, amazing grassy hoppy aroma, hoppy fruity taste, and a fantastic bitter citrusy finish. One of the best Canadian IPAs I’ve had. Edit: I have a feeling they’ve changed the recipe at some point recently. I’ve continued to drink this over and over, and now it’s different from my original description. Now clear and amber, rather than golden and cloudy. Aroma as incredible as ever, though now more fruity than grassy. The taste is more balanced than I seem to recall. You can definitely taste some nice malty sweetness along with the fruits before the IBUs take over. My score remains the same, other than the appearance.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2013 Bottle. Nice grassy hops dominate the flavour here. Manages a fairly smooth finish despite the hops and alcohol. Tastes like a magical hop forest. Yes.

355 ml bottle - pours clear medium golden, nice to see for an Ontario IPA, which until very recently usually shade toward the amber/copper side of the spectrum. Aroma of tropical and stone fruits - pear, peach, lychee, tangerine, apricot - all there, ripe and beautiful. Flavour is similar but a bit more muddled, as if all these individual elements were muddled together, not a bad thing, just a notch down from the aroma. A bit of warming alcohol in there as well. Nice bracing (but not BRACING) bitter finish. Well made regional IPA, and kudos for Muskoka for starting to expand the strike zone a bit.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A golden IPA with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, a nice pungeant hops, floral and pinhey, citrusy notes. In mouth, a classic IPA wotj smooth floral hops, lingering grapefruits bitterness, a bit harsh but overall, a well done IPA. On tap at Arrow and Loon, June 22 2011.

Cask at the Arrow & Loon’s first Cask Festival. Hazy amber with a slight off-white head. Some hops and bitternes, bit grainy. Nice bitter taste, some lemon, dry finish - a great offering from Muskoka - might actually buy some if I see it at the LCBO or beer store.
