robinvboyer (950), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2008 holy hell, a brown ale? this beer is black! If i didnt know i would think this is a porter. Very small beige head, a slightly fruity aroma, with some roasted malt, and a touch of hops. Smoky flavour, more roasted malt, and some nice hops in the finish. Smooth in the end, wow, i’m very impressed! I’ve had a few of this breweries beers, and they are pretty subpar, but this is very nice. JoeMcPhee (3615), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 2, 2007 Very dark brown colour with a thick tan head. The aroma is lightly chocolatey, milk chocolate, dark toasted malts and a hint of light roast. A bit of caramelly character in the nose as well. Sweet toasty flavour, deep rich chocolatey malts. Lingering earthy finish with a soft bitterness. Really more a porter than a brown ale, but it’s tasty, no matter what you call it. The_Jester (442), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2007 341 mL bottle. Dark chestnut brown with, unfortunately, just a ring of head. Very nice aroma of chocolate, coffee, roast, and a little smoke. Taste is slightly sweet, nutty, with roast, coffee, and again, a little smoke. Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. A little hop bite at the end, but not much. Not bad. pootzboy (855), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Oct 1, 2007 Updated: Oct 2, 2007Bottle:
Deep Chestnut brown with red highlights...ample frothy mocha cap.
Very pungent aromas of malt cocoa and grassy hops.
Malty up front, good balance in the middle with some Golding "bite" some complexity with a deep cocoa tone to it.
A very decent dark ale. Mellow tastey and drinkable MarkoR (224), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2007 Dark brown colour with nice frothy head. Some toffee and coffee in the taste. Not bad at all.
