COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While the legend of Mad Tom is laden with mystery and intrigue, one thing remains clear: Mad Tom did things his own way. Twice as Mad Tom is an aggressively twice-dry-hopped Imperial India Pale Ale, that delivers a definitive hop aroma & unabashedly big bold flavour. We brew this beer with the road less traveled in mind, and in the spirit of old Mad Tom...we make no bones about it.

Bottle, LCBO. Dark orange, small creamy white head. Strong boozy hoppy aroma. Taste - tastes a lot like Mad Tom at first - then the extra hops and malt kick in in a big way. Really long fruity bitter linger. Creamy yet lively mouthfeel makes this one very easy to drink - dangerous! A solid beer and a welcome one from an outstanding Ontario brewer - thank you Muskoka!

Pours clear deep gold with one finger of medium dense ivory head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, little to no lacing. (3/5) Nose is pithy grapefruit, tropical fruit, pine resin, light malt. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, immediate strong bitter. (8/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, dry bitter finish. (4/5) Much as with its smaller brother single IPA, I can’t say I notice a lot of difference between this version and the prior, filtered one. Even though it’s unfiltered, it poured crystal clear, and though I’m tempted there might be a bit more rich earthiness to the flavour, I couldn’t swear to it. Impressive integration of the quite high ABV makes this clean drinking and a little dangerous. Still one of the best beers routinely stocked by NLC. (16/20)

Pours a hazy-amber with an off white head. Smells of citrus, hops, and grass. Tastes of citrus, and hops-- bitter. Has medium carbonation and long bitter finish.

Excellente DIPA!

Bottle: Cloudy, brown-orange.....small off-white head. Orange, piney hops, caramel scent. Bready, bitter resin, grapefruit-peel taste. Orange and caramel malts. Nice, heavy bittering....balanced well with the sweet orange.. Smooth.

Bottle. Orange-grapefruit malt and grapefruit peel/pine aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange-lime malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel/pine flavor. Nice balance. Pretty tasty.

Once again I don’t quite get the hype with this stuff. As with the regular Mad Tom there’s some nice citrus/pine hop aromas, but there’s also this weird tangy, pungent background smell that I find unpleasant. I feel like this stuff smells and tastes rustic, but in a bad way. The malt is nice and hearty, and there’s some nice hop stuff going on but....meh.

Pour: Cloudy slightly dark amber, next to no head which was a surprise with the amount of fizz present. Smell: Strong Fruity Smell with a touch of pine Taste: An initial very sweet tasting blast of grapefruit and pine with touch of lemon and a slightly bitter creamy after taste again with hints of pine leaving you wanting another sip. All and all a very hoppy taste overall but that is to be expected with a "twice as mad ipa". Thoughts: Not a beer I would want to get drunk from a little to sweet and can feel the hangover from the first sip if I swam in a case of these. Overall it is not a bad beer but it feels like it is missing something. I find good beers always have a unique flavor sometimes hidden or sometimes jumps right out at you but this beer seems to lack this. Endorsement: I would probably recommend this to a friend but just as a taster so either singles or two like I got in Muskoka’s winter sample pack. It is a very sweet hoppy beer so I wouldn’t recommend drinking a whole bunch but it is well worth a try, not my cup of tea but I could see others enjoying this beer.

This is easily one of the better imperial IPA’s I have ever had. Pours a hazy pale gold and has aromas of pine, citrus, and a whole lot of grapefruit. It’s a medium bodied ale with a light fizzy carbonation. The grapefruit really shines through upon tasting. There’s a perfect balance of malt and bitterness with a nice long finish. Very fresh tasting, no boozy flavor whatsoever.
