3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 daniel0017 (329) - Yukon, - NOV 12, 2012pours copper amber with a short lively head of one finger. aromas of floral and citrusy hops, summer fruits and sweetbread. Flavor is complex and well balanced, bold and dry with the malts coming through well amidst a grapefruit base. long lasting aftertaste with a slight nip and bite. excellent as an IPA but was expecting more since it’s a double.

Clear brew with amber colour and fine bubbled head. Muted aroma, why filter a double IPA? quiet brew with little aroma but showing some citrus, cereal and resinous hoppy notes. again, reduced flavour, sweet brew with a pine cone finish. Extremely disappointing, muted, reduced and lacking any real punch. good beer but as a double IPA it is light.

355ml bottle. Dark golden highly filtered pour with an average off white head. Lots of cereal grain and caramel with a piney hop presence. Piney on the palate with a reasonable bitterness but nothing outstanding.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Glouglouburp (5613) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 23, 2013
In short: A sugary boozy bitter golden IPA. High aggression, low drinkability. Meh.
How: Bottle 341ml, consumed fresh a few weeks after purchase.
The look: Shining clear golden body topped by a medium off-white head with good retention.
In long: The predominantly hoppy nose is grassy+citrusy and also a bit sweet. Not fresh aromatic citrus fruits here, more like dried fruits and candied fruits. In mouth the beer is very clean, polished toasted sugary malts, a bit too much residual sugars for my liking, alcohol is very much apparent (feels more than 8.4%), resinous hops that are part-grassy part-citrusy part-conifero. Brutal bitterness augmented by the alcohol bite. Seems like crystal malts were abused in this one. Feels like intensity was the goal in the creation of this beer, how to make a simple IPA as aggressive as possible while keeping the abv relatively low. Drinkability is unacceptably low for a beer of this style and gravity. I can’t give it a very low score because it is so clean and professional but this is pretty much the exact opposite of what I’m looking for in an IPA nowadays. A bottle given to me by my brother because he didn’t want it after he saw Muskoka employees pissing in the fermenters, but that’s not true, my brother is a pathological liar, even worse, all this story is not true, my brother never told me that, we are all pathological liars in my family.

Cask at Pub Italia. Pours a clear amber with rocky, kind of mushy looking beige head. Aroma is a pleasant balance of citrus (lemon peel, orange) and spruce. Flavor is moderately malty, borderline toffee notes, that make way for a sharp sting of pine needles of bitter lemon peel. Hop sting is sharp but fades more quickly than I’d expect. Enjoyable overall.

Pours a clear amber with little white head and some lacing. Aroma is pretty malty, some grassy hops and little citrus. Taste is about the same, little bitterness and some light citrusy and grassy hops. Medium to full body and medium-low carbonation. I'm really not sure about the freshness of this one. Seems like faded hops. Will need to try it again.

Bottle - Grapefruit, orange and sweet malts. Clear copper with a thin white head. Sweet and a subtle pine, with a ton of pine and bitterness. The fish is all bitter and something is making my teeth squeak. Not a fan.

Keg at west 50, Missisugua, Ontario, 3rd May 2013. Half pint with brother on law, who sank a full pint. This is tasty, good beer, slightly sweet for my taste, and unusually I would have preferred slightly more carbonation
