Papsoe (11076), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 11, 2008 (Bottle 33 cl) Comes in a Danish beer bottle! Pours very dark brown with a vague tint of orange and a rough, beige head. Big aroma of nuts, wood and alcohol. Good, full, body, very low in carbonation with plenty of accents of dried fruit, nuts, wood and alcohol. Slightly burned in the finish. As most Mussel Inn beers this defies category, but I find Old Ale to be the closest style. 310108 yalnikim (676), Wellington, New Zealand Jan 31, 2008 Tasted 31/01/2008. Bottle direct from the brewery, courtesy of Papsoe. I see a garnet highlighted dark brown beer that’s so lowly carbonated it borders on lifeless. Looks like it would love to go through a beer engine, to turn the airy disappearing head into a thick foamy collar. Chocolate, sweet espresso, cola, liquer and a little lacquer greet the nose. In the mouth it is much of the same, like a chocolate liquer with coke. The finish is a little overwhelmingly lacquer-like. Great cask style carbonation and full weighty mouthfeel. Very nice strong mild recipe that hasn’t quite been executed right. bozoNZ (391), Christchurch, New Zealand Mar 19, 2007 330 ml bottle from the pub. Pours afine black with warm brown tinges. Sweet aroma almost bourbon tinged with char notes. Beautiful full whipped cream head, almost like a cappichino. Lovely body, warm toffee with coffee & slightiest touch hop dry finish. Almost like caramello but with dark chocolate. Suprisingly easy to drink given it’s abv. Beautiful beer from a fine establishment omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 9, 2006 Bottled. Near black, no head. Roasty and lightly grainy. Very dry and salty with medium body. The mouthfeel is a little bit coarse, but when it warms some coffee and chocolate shows up and covers that. Surprisingly low bitterness.
