A dry farmhouse ale. The primary character of this beer is from yeast: apple and pear flavors blend with spicy phenolics, classic Belgian yeast bubblegum flavors and the unmistakable pepperiness of rye for a truly refreshing summer beer.

On tap at T.Mac in Huntersville. Pours an amber color with white head. Clove yeast, caramel, slight booze aromas. Caramel, apple, malty, slightly oxidized flavors. Mouthfeel a bit syrupy and a touch of booze. Doesn’t really fit in my mind with a saison, maybe more of a belgian amber.

It pours golden with slight clouding. It has earthly aromas with citrus and lemon. It has basement flavors from the yeast with citrus, spices, and grass.

nearbeer (4392) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 17, 2014
650 ml. Lightly hazy orange-amber with a lasting film of cream. Nose is spicy dark bread, earthy honey, white grapes, apple and a touch of funky cheese. Tastes of the same mix with some citrus zest on the long finish. Medium body is smooth with medium carbonation and a nice balance.

On draft at Pangea Tavern in Avon NC. Pours a cloudy yellow with a thick white head. Aroma of banana and lemon. Flavors of coriander and white pepper. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Slight tart finish. Pretty darn tasty.

Sampled at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp at Mills River, then later had a full bottle. Yellow, fizzy, and a decent head. Smells citrusy, with a lot of lemon. It’s definitely a bit heavier than I prefer. Plenty of citrus with a some oak flavors, too.

Draft sample at the 9th Annual Summertime Brews Festival, Greensboro, 7/13/13. Pours a hazy peach color with a thin head. Aroma of spicy, herbal, earthy hops, earth, spice, citrus. The taste is citrus, stone fruits, strawberries, spice, herbal hops. Medium bodied.

tastybeer (1852) - Indiana, USA - OCT 15, 2012
Draft. Hazy gold pour, white head, some retention/lace. Aroma of fruity esters, pepper, lemon, grass, light herbs. Taste is belgo yeast, pepper, spicy rye, earth, grass. Palate is dry, soft, slick, bitter finish. A bit heavy for saison, but enjoyable.

TURDFERGUSON (4027) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - SEP 16, 2012
Tap at Acme. Cloudy yellow golden with a thin white head. Nose is peppery and yeasty esters, some lemon, light orange. Surprisingly pleasant and clean. Flavor is lightly sweet, light bitterness, lots of minerals, with an earthy citrusy finish. The best Mystery I have had so far. Finished my sample (a first!) and might even be inclined for a full pour next time. Good work Erik!

Tap at Tylers Raleigh. Pours a soft straw gold with a slight haze. Never got a head on this one, not saying it wasn’t there. Just couldn’t coax it out and it wasn’t there on the pour. Aroma shows lots of raw fruit and yeast/bread dough. Peppery/spicy notes are very well defined in the nose and flavor and have a ’majority share hold’ in respect to perceivable organoleptic compounds. More raw fruit in the flavor, kind of like cooked peaches? Bread dough/yeasty notes and a lightly vegetal character. Grassy notes round out the finish. Medium body with a soft carbonation.
