On tap at Mellow Mushroom, Durhamistan. Sweet Christmas this one was truly horrifying. Maybe, just maybe tap lines were an issue. But this was more buttery than the popcorn I had at Spider-Man. Someone please, for the love of p00tz, please give me a Coors.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught at Antonias in Hillsborough. Served with no head. I enjoyed this one, sorry its been hated on so much. Soft straw gold pour with one finger of white head (coaxed out). I get some nice bready notes and a very light showing of isoamyl acetate. Nice balance of reserved yeast esters and malt character. I tend to enjoy a peppery/spicy/prickly character with my blondes that wasnít there, but thatís my individual preference ;) Medium body and light hop character.

As a former gentleman... Id prefer to never have this one again. When will NC veer away from massed produced schwill and, actually give us stuff that tastes good. This is pointed in the direction of most all the NC breweries.. Just cause you sell a lot of it doesnt mean its good

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Straw gold color with no head or much lacing, very under carbonated. Aroma of sour soap, hint of some corn. Flavor was terrible, bitter and a bit of mouth burn sourness from too many hops or some sort of diacetyl infection. Iíve had much better homebrew honestly.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2012 Iím sure Erik Myers (brewer) is a good guy. Iíve read his stuff, heard from people heís taught beer classes to, and have seen him on various NC beer press. Iíve had 2 mystery beers. The first was good, this was really bad. At mellow mushroom in Durham with a rater w/ over 3k rates. We both drain poured this beer. 2 sips and we both asked for a refund. It was described as a hoppy english pale. it was a DMS bomb, full on corn. with a lot of Diacetyl.
Corn, popcorn, vegetable, cloying, not much hops. I thought maybe it was the bars lines but it wasnít based on other samples.
It reminds me a lot like Aviator in the Triangle 3 or so years ago. Aviator beers were very poor, today, they ave solid.. It just takes time to dial things in. Right now, they arenít.
A perfect example of brewer releasing a beer from a brewery before itís dialed in. I caní see how the owner of Mystery thinks this beer is dialed in.
Sorry man.... and good luck going forward. I"ll keep trying Mystery beers.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2012 Tap at Mellow Mushroom. Hazy yellow straw with a spitty white head. Nose is earth, minerals, faint English hops, esters. Flavor is watery, some banana and cereal grains, plastic. Finishes lightly bitter. This brewery is no longer a mystery.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Hillsborough BBQ Company. Pours a hazy blond with a minimal white head. Nose shows some Belgian yeast and some light citrus, bread, and grain. Bit of fruit. Palate and taste are a bit on the thin side. Not a bad beer with a meal, though.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
A hazed blonde ale with a thin big bubbled white head. In aroma, a fruity malt with interesting tropical fruits. In mouth, a strange doughy and unfermented worth, mineral, sweet, not very good. Cask at Twin City Brewfest, August 13 2011.
