Had on tap at the Grog last night during the "Storyslam" session. Paid $6 for a 12oz. Pours a rusty mauve-brown with a thin off-white ringed head barely a fingernail in length. Incredibly perfumy. It has raisins, walnuts, and caramel written all of it, and tastes much the same. Plum skins, ash, and coffee syrup by swallow. Alcohol present by first sip. A decent Quad from Mystic.

Draft at Churchkey. Pours brown to dark brown with a small creamy beige head. The aroma is caramel, dark fruits, plum, honey and brown sugar; pretty sweet actually. The flavor is more sweet dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, soft carbonation, smooth, doesn’t show the 12%, there was something off at the finish.

Pours a deep mahogany color with a three finger eggshell foam that fizzes out rather quickly. On the nose there is some initial boozy acetone that falls off pretty quickly and warms into a traditional quad nose... burnt sugar, molasses a touch of earthy spice and traces of plums. The mouthfeel is soft and gentle with nice balance between fruity spice and dark sweet caramelized notes.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a finger thick off-white head. Caramel, toffee, mocha coffee bean, nuts, Asian spice. Acidic, smooth and light body. Alcohol is hidden. Reminds me of a good Barolo. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375mL Bottle. Aroma is a bit of spice, with some warmth, lightly fruited. Flavors run about the same, filled out with a lot of alcohol heat. There’s a bit of plum and fig pudding sugar throughout, a good bit of warmth, and some distant bready yeast. This seems flat and not in the carbonation sense. I really want to love Mystic’s beers, they’re making flawless examples of great styles, but there’s something too perfect and over-engineered about them. They’re too clean, too cleaned up. They need just a few rough edges, a few dark corners to add some mystery, uniqueness and depth. It’s kind of as though Germans made Belgian beers.

Bottle. Poured a deeper amberish color with an averaged sized off white head. Roasty, dark fruits, with brown sugary sweetness in the tastes. Lighter alcohol in the finish, but overall well hidden.

Bottle pour, plastic cup at winter fest Boston. Dark, clear pour with caramel colored head. Great Belgian aroma, smooth palate with medium carbonation. Great sugar aftertaste. Great beer!

Bottle from Julios. Pours out a very dark leathery brown. Frothy tan head. Caramel aromas and flavor. ABV is very well hidden. Low carbonation. Drinks more like an old ale. Well balanced and very smooth.
