COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mystic Descendant is a beer descended from the cultural history of the Boston harbor area. A dry Irish stout meets an English porter and is then fermented in the fermentorium with our saison yeast with a touch of the ubiquitous ingredient from the areaís past: molasses. The result is a uniqe beer; it has more dark fruit than a porter and less roast than a traditional stout, while having a different ester profile than a Belgian stout. We thus dubbed our recipe a Suffolk Dark Ale, as an homage to our immigrant ancestors.

750ml bottle: Pours a mostly opaque dark brown with a creamy froth of effervescent tan head. Has a lightly toasted biscuity malty nose with some chocolate notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and bubbly carbonation with some light fruity notes and roasted malt bitterness before a drier slightly citurs hoppy finish. A little over-carbonated, but has good flavor and mild complexity.

750 ml cork and caged bottle shared by Jimmie. Poured a super dark brown with a smaller bubbly biege head. Aroma has a strong spiceness about it along with some chocolate pudding skins, barrel, vanilla extract, and some burnt banana fosterís. Body is loaded with very strong carbonation, a thinner mouthfeel and a lingering burning aftertaste. Flavor of bad chocolate, wet toast, odd vanilla, over ripe fruits. Blah.

Will pour a five+ finger cream head that fades very slowly to a thin layer leaving a thick lace. Black color, no highlights. Strong carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Roasted malt nose and flavor is malty, bready, fairly smooth. The 7% ABV is totally hidden. $9.99 for a 750ml bottle from Julioís Liquors Westborough, Ma.

Bottle shared at The Kernel during the later hours of Nateís Final Push. Dark brown pour with a foamy, off-white head. Dark sugar throughout, also some brown sugar, light burnt plastic, roasted malts, cocoa. A bit of dark fruits, brown sugar and toast. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, dark with short-lived roastiness. Alright.

750ml bottle corked and caged. Pours black with a two finger tan head. Smells of roated malts with hint of molasses. Taste is sweet fruit and bitterness up front with a little bit of belgian funk and spiceyness at the end. Nice carbonation with a thin mouth feel which seems unusual given the appearance and taste. I would recommend.

750mL Bottle, purchased at Craft Beer Cellar - Belmont, MA. Hmmm. This tastes like a dark session ale, but itís seven percent and finishes like an Abbey Dubbel-Foreign Stout cross. Thatís fun. Not fun in the punching-Barney-the-Dinosaur-while-youíre-drunk kind of way, but fun in the watching-Bozo-the-clown-when-youíre-19 kind of way. This beer seems almost completely dry. The hybrid malt quality confuses but titillates. There is a terse, biting element and I think itís coming from the molasses, because itís a bit tarry and blackening, reminiscent of some sooty faced, cockneyed 11 year old factory worker. A new style I donít see going anywhere, but one thatís worth trying anyway, especially if you like a strong, tar-flavored finish.
