COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to the history and stature of the famous Somerville landmark, ‘Old Powderhouse Wheat Wine’ features a varietal of hard, red winter wheat that was grown at Four Star Farms in Northfield, MA and malted by Valley Malt in Hadley, MA. Praised by artisanal bakers, the flavors contributed by this hardy grain are earthy and complex helping to create a robust and powerful beer worthy of its name and the history to which it pays homage. For hops, only domestic varieties were used for ‘Old Powderhouse,’ combining perfectly with the rich flavors in the wheat for a bright and wonderfully aromatic beer reminiscent of fresh, ripe fruit. On the dry side for a beer of its strength and style, ‘Old Powderhouse’ is remarkably drinkable at 11% ABV with only subtle hints of alcohol coming through the fruity bouquet during the finish. In celebration of the change in season, of new growth, and of the land we call home, we are pleased to offer ‘Old Powderhouse Wheat Wine’ for release throughout the state of Massachusetts this Spring."

Pours with a two-finger, khaki head that fades quickly leaving traces of lace. Hazy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is dark fruit and malt and flavor is sweet dark fruit, mellow wheat. High ABV is hidden. Nice wheatwine. $14.99 for a 750ml bottle, from Giles Fine Wine Arlington, MA.

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured deep golden/orange with a thick forming head. This was an awesome wheat wine. Smooth and not overly boozy with vanilla and earthy wheatened malt sweetness. Dark, toasted sweetness too. Not bitter or boozy at all.

Tap. Pours hazy straw with thin white head. Big wheat on the nose. Drinks smoothly and sweetly with a quiet finish. Tastes of wheat and honey. Hides the alcohol remarkably well. Shining example of a what wine.

Cider color, complex aroma of apple, wheat and dark fruit. Great flavor of apple, raisins, and alcohol. Quite sweet. Nice mouth feel, with a slightly sweet, slightly tart finish.

Color- orange Head- thick/tight beige A little sour aroma, but not at all offputting. Almost like a deep cherry effect. Heavy and bubbly on the tongue. Dry, but it’s a good dry. A unique style that I recommend trying.

Amber pour with a white head. The aroma has some wheat, orange and biscuit malt notes. The flavor is full of wheat, pine, orange, alcohol and oak. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

750ml bottle (batch 002) in a tulip. Pours deep amber with an off-white head. Aroma of deep caramel and toffee malts, a lot of wheat, some spicy yeast, light bitterness, and hints of alcohol. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Smoother texture. A solid beer, but just not my favorite style.

Pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with a steady carb stream feeding a huge bubbly tan head that persists forever. Smells of lightly spiced wheat, a bit of orange peel, and grainy bready and caramel malt. The flavor is sweet and a bit subtle. There’s a light sweet honey like malt up front followed by some bready and caramel notes as well as a hint of dark berries and a solid dose of ethanol. Medium to thick body with a spirited level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Nice beer, I’m glad I got to try it, but it doesn’t really excite me. Its definitely better as it warms, but its crying for a solid dose of hops in my opinion.
