Saison Renaud exemplifies a modern take on the traditional farmhouse ale. Made with just pilsner malt and Saaz hops, this recipe is made to truly let the assertiveness of our house yeast shine. Presenting a clean and crisp body, the spicy and fruity esters of the yeast prevail over a slight earthy bitterness from the Saaz.

The Name. Renaud show itís french ancestry it naming after Bryanís great grandmother, Florence Renaud, from Popple Dungeon, VT.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2015 2015 Bottle from Whole Foods River St, drunk 6/14/15
Quite carbonated leading to a plentiful, foamy white head that slowly recedes to cover. Body is a deep gold with light amber tints, mostly clear, leaving the sediment in the bottom.
Light cookies, dry tangerines, hints of acidity and moderately fruity esters all do a passable job of identifying this as a saison, though itís far less hoppy than Dupont, far less interestingly malty or musty than Blaugies and without any of the funk of Fantome. Thatís ok. At least itís not Americanized, I guess, nor is there any alcohol or flaw to it.
For all the carbonation, the mouthfeel is a bit loose despite the malt being quite chewy and probably a bit underattenuated. Not that itís a sugar bomb or anything, rather, think along the lines of Dupont Foret and (minus the better presented yeast flavors) youíre not too far off. Bread dough, light toffee and tons of honeyed pils malt with spicy/floral saaz notes adding only light bitterness but ample flavor. Simple, as intended, and drinkable. The loose/overly watery texture lessened my enjoyment considerably.
Draught at Deep Ellum, 7/10/15
Confirmed my suspicions that it wasnít an off-bottle. This is just too malty, sticky, chewy and bready. If this was more dry and crisp and allowed the saaz more expression, itíd be much, much better. As is, itís almost a chore to drink this stuff....

Once I finally got the head to settle down enough to drink it I found a brisk, lively, straightforward brew with clean Pils malt and snappy Saaz hops touched by light handed spice. Man this could rock the summer away. Uber yummy it is elegance.

Bottle shared with oakbluff. Clear gold in colour with strong carbonation. Fairly grassy on the nose, along with pilsner malt, honeycomb, and wet stones. Straightforward dry pilsner malt, white pepper, and cut grass flavors, along with some additional spicy yeast notes. Very dry. Tasty enough, but lacking the complexity and citrus notes of the Hazy Jane we tried earlier.

Very pale golden straw yellow. Faint head. A spicy, lightly fruity yeast note in the nose. Very light body and flavor. An almost cider like note -- crisp and tart. Bitterness comes out in the middle. Finishes clean. Quite nice, quaffable.
