voota (754), Melbourne, Australia Oct 24, 2006 Updated: May 19, 2007 Bottled at the Bishops in Malmo, got very excited because the bartender told me it was the Kaggen version, although the label stated otherwise, oh well. The 2005 bottle is marked as brewed for the Bishops Arms.
Pours a oily black with a very nice creamy brown head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, cocoa, damp wood, mulberries and light alcohol. Amazing body, warming, sweet but delicate. Main flavours are caramel, alcohol, forest fruits and rum/oak, the chocolate plays a supporting role but provides some roast bitterness. The finish is caramely, reasonably alcoholic. Best porter I have tried to date. Simply stunning.
lassem (134), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 8, 2008 On tap on EBF in Copenhagen - a 2007 version. Pours a deep brown with a light taned head. The nose is pretty light with notes of cigars, plump and dry fruits like raisins. The mouthfeel is huge and it takes up every space in your mouth with a bombastic attitude. At the same time it is smooth as hell and both vinoes and sweet. I taste heavily roasted malts, brown sugar / sirup and cacao .. a bit like northeeuropean mead. The finish is long and bitter with strong hoppy flavours that keeps hunting you Rune (1809), Tromsø, Norway Oct 2, 2008 It came as a very pleasant surprise to find the 2007 vintage of this one on tap at bar set up by Den Tatoverede Enke, EBF in Copenhagen. Shining, rosewood body with no head. In-depth smell of dark malts and vanilla sweetness. Delicious taste of honey, malt-covered dark and dried fruits (plenty of raisin and prunes) with an everlasting finish of roasted bitterness added a charming spicy touch (Saturday afternoon, 13.09.2008). asheft (951), Marburg, Germany Oct 1, 2008 [on tap at EBF 2008; 2007 ed.]
Chocolate-coffee aroma with sherry, vanilla, and cream notes. Black and opaque with a fine wispy cover. Velvety raspberry-chocolate with oak bourbon vanilla and perfect hops flavour and bitterness to balance. Salty, but not overly. Excellent roastiness. Full body, moderate carbonation, lasting roasty bitterness, warming. tarjei (1300), Bryne, Norway Oct 1, 2008 Tap at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. The body is black ant the head is brown. Aroma is dark chocolate and sweetness. Flavor is fantastic mixture of coffee, chocolate and dark fruit. Now I´m looking for the «Kaggen»..... Fin (2357), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Sep 28, 2008 Had this at the European Beer Festival, Kobenhaven 13-09-08 Pours black, wonderful oily texture and really thick substantial mouthfeel. Creamy, loads of coffee and dark fruits, good but not as good as the mighty Kaggen.
