WeeHeavySD (1711), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 5, 2007 Rating #600, bottle via trade with the ever generous Marsiblursi, thank you Andreas and Maria. Pours a perfect pitch black with a half finger not quite full head of light brown. The nose is quite full of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and maybe a touch of smoke. The chocolate and the roastiness are the most pronounced scents. The taste is very rich with notes of coffee and chocolate and a lot of chocolate malt. The taste pretty balanced and has a number of nice characteristics. The palate is smooth and nicely moves the brew around my mouth and over my tongue. This is pretty damn good, I have to say, and I’d really love to try its big brother the infamous Kaggen.
Finn (1083), Tromsø, Norway Sep 2, 2008 Bottle 0,25l at The Bishops Arms, Luleå 4 Aug 08. Also labeled "Årgangsporter 2006". Black as coal. A mocca coloured head. Strong aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Surprisingly easy to drink. A well balanced flavor in the same direction as the aroma and lasting almost forever. Aftertaste of chocolate. This is art! Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of a nice couple. Fusels, dark fruits, baker’s chocolate and perfumey hot alcohol notes blend with the scent of milk duds to comprise the aroma. The body is full on black and holds a lasting, but thin, mocha head. Soy, beef bullion, smo0ked jerky, charred wood and malt flavors. Mild chocolate on the finish growing to sweeter milk chocolate in the aftertatse. Nice mouthfeel.
MIBRomeo (1883), Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2008 Shared at Struisse farms. A dark black pour w/ a thick dk tan head and fantastic lacing. Aroma is rich malts light roasted coffees some bitter sweet coccoa powder, a hint of raisen. Huge thick well coated palate. Delicious tastes, more bittersweet chocolate than i expected a hint of plum and raisen I thought grahm cracker in the aftertaste but was rebuked by others... some fine coffee notes and num num. Bananamaniac (35), Kristinehamn, Sweden Jun 25, 2008 Great beer! Not exactly as good as the "Närke Kaggen Stormaktsporter" but it’s really close. Pretty much the same flavours except that this one isn’t oak-aged (at least it doesn’t taste so).
Wonderful palate, the same as Kaggen. Beer_2000 (1195), Kristiansand, Norway Jun 5, 2008 On tap@SBC 2008. Totally black body with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet roasted malt, roasted coffee, black chocolate, dry fruit and some alcohol. Flavor lives up to its expectation from the aroma. Incredible sweet, but well balanced with bitterness. Lots of roasted malt and coffee, chocolate and some nice and warming alcohol. Thick oily body and long finish, extremely nice beer. Coffee, liqueur and dessert at the same time.
