Vas19 (202), Maryland, USA May 6, 2008 Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of hops, caramel, and sour citrus fruit. Good texture. Taste is malty and hoppy with some alcohol on the finish. The flavor of this one just didnt do it for me. First Nogne I’ve been disappointed by.
phishpond417 (1162), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jul 21, 2008 It’s labeled as a barleywine, but it’s more reminiscent of a lighter baltic porter in my opinion. Pours a dark chocoalte colour, nice huge nutty head. aroma is soft of roasted malts and dark chocolate- however the mouthfeel is very full, lots of breadiness, dry and alcohol flavor. My first norwegian brew i believe- very impressive. Suds_McDuff (976), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston,TX, Texas, USA Jul 20, 2008 Biggest head ever ever in the category for barleywine ... i heard rose neihland had a hand in this ... leaves a nice sticky hoppy sweet-bitter smack ... no abv detected ... a great no holds bar barleywine (american or IIPA?) ... LS SuperDave70 (652), Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Deep brown-amber pour with a foamy off-white head that lasts. Aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar, grapefruit peel and alcohol. Sweet malt and light fruit flavor. Sweeter than your average IIPA. Long, slightly bitter grapefruit hops finish. A solid brew, but not a great IIPA. hellbilly (793), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jul 12, 2008 pours a darker brown color than the bottle with burgundy tints when held up to the light. it’s topped by a soft frothy head and some spotty lacing. aromas of chocolate malt/dark grains, fruit, grass, brown sugar, a touch of molasses, pine and alcohol when it warms. the palate is just moderately sweet... for a dipa or bw! the flavors are rather faint... maybe restrained?... grainy/chocolate malt, earth, spice, grassy/herbal/almost generic hops. it finishes nicely dry and bitter with the hops stinging a little in the aftertaste. medium body is rather light from the lack of sugars. soft slick mouth feel turns a bit parching. it’s not great... but very refined and mellow. good for sippin’ on. Mogwai (152), Askeby, Denmark Jul 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/amber colour with an off-white tan. Aroma is hops and malt, caramel. Flavor is exceptional, caramel, nuts, malt. It seems the beer itself is also confused on wther to be a Barley WIne or an Double IPA. It seems to be somewhere in the middle. Very good indeed.
