Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks again Joey. Poured a nearly opaque black color with only some red getting through along the edge of the glass. Attractive aroma of molasses, anise, chocolate liqueur, raisin, and a whiff of cherry. The alcohol was warm and while it made it’s presence known, I wouldn’t have guessed it was 16%. I detected a hint of smoke, but the dominant flavors were a nice mixture of coffee, chocolate, raisin, and fig. The smooth, oily texture was just another element that made this one a home run.

A black as pitch and opaque beer with a small (not much more than a ring) and disappearing brown head.Very malty aroma, powerful, though not as expected, roasty with notes of chocolate, coffee, licorice, much berries and some alcohol, that is overall enough hidden. The flavour begins very sweet, but not cloying or unbalanced. Good roastiness and very smooth, creamy. Notes of dark fruits, and all other typical notes of a good stout. Medium to full body, soft caebonation, very long finish with medium bitterness. The alcohol is felt and it’s warming more than disturbing and I can’t believe it’s 16%. It seems more 10-11%. Very drinkable for its size. Expensive, but without doubt worthy. Lightly syrupy, complex, I can’t ask for more.

Sep 23, 2008 Bottle at EBF 2008. Black colour with a nice light brown colour. Complex aroma and taste of roasted malts, licorice and fruits. Lasting taste. Good beer.

Sep 19, 2008 Brown-black with red highlights. Coffee, black ink, solid liquorice sweets, and a minty finish. Coffee, smoked ham, ink-y, lot of syrup, ending on a fierce hopbitterbite. Roasted at the same time, of course. Unbelievably chewy, smooth as none. Alcoholwarming only in the aftertaste, dangerous to boot! Exceptional beerI Halleluiah to Jacob, after searching years after this beer, blackmailing beerpubowners and brewer, here it is. And it was worth it all.

Appearance: Very dark brown, almost black. Tan/Brown head, not too much of it.
Aroma: Coffee, dark malt. Vinous. Slightly roasted. Dark fruit when warmer. Caramel.
Taste: Wow. Vinous, dark fruit. Coffee and chocolate. Bit of alcohol taste. Impressive.

Black with a brown head. Aroma heavy malty (roasted, licorice, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits). Flavor heavy sweet. Full body, the alcohol is well hidden.
