Ole_R (1304), Oslo, Norway Apr 15, 2007 An oily pour, leaving a jet black body in the glass. One finger head; dense, creamy espresso with a reddish tinge. Wonderful, sweetish and roasted aroma of freshly crushed coffee-beans, cocoa, black chocolate, vanilla, wood, port and rum.
Surprisingly sweet-flavored. Still extremely well balanced and complex. Dark roasted malts, an appropriate amount of bittering hops, more black chocolate, espresso, dates, plums and raisins. A distinct, but nicely vineous alcohol presence. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Fat body. Everlasting chocolate finish. This beer is a marvellous experience. Thanks to Nøgne Ø for their innovative work in the lager-country of Norway (and thanks to Beer_2000 for providing this beauty).
tlind2 (281), Helsinki, Finland Oct 13, 2008 500 ml bottle (#4594) @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Black color, brown head. Viscous appearance. Strong, heady aroma with plenty of alcohol, coffee and plums. The flavor is a fascinating mix of licorice, smoke, black chocolate, warming alcohol, molassis and hops. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. Reminds me in some ways of good vintage port wines. An excellent beer that would be great after a meal. Slayer85 (457), Firenze, Italy Oct 2, 2008 Bottled. A black as pitch and opaque beer with a small (not much more than a ring) and disappearing brown head.Very malty aroma, powerful, though not as expected, roasty with notes of chocolate, coffee, licorice, much berries and some alcohol, that is overall enough hidden. The flavour begins very sweet, but not cloying or unbalanced. Good roastiness and very smooth, creamy. Notes of dark fruits, and all other typical notes of a good stout. Medium to full body, soft caebonation, very long finish with medium bitterness. The alcohol is felt and it’s warming more than disturbing and I can’t believe it’s 16%. It seems more 10-11%. Very drinkable for its size. Expensive, but without doubt worthy. Lightly syrupy, complex, I can’t ask for more. FrankJohansen (2807), Sabro, Denmark Sep 23, 2008 Bottle at EBF 2008. Black colour with a nice light brown colour. Complex aroma and taste of roasted malts, licorice and fruits. Lasting taste. Good beer. JorisPPattyn (4526), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 19, 2008 Brown-black with red highlights. Coffee, black ink, solid liquorice sweets, and a minty finish. Coffee, smoked ham, ink-y, lot of syrup, ending on a fierce hopbitterbite. Roasted at the same time, of course. Unbelievably chewy, smooth as none. Alcoholwarming only in the aftertaste, dangerous to boot! Exceptional beerI Halleluiah to Jacob, after searching years after this beer, blackmailing beerpubowners and brewer, here it is. And it was worth it all. azlondon (504), Greater London, England Sep 19, 2008 My one #3006. My 500th rating (491 according to RB, though).<br />
