grandridge (105), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Apr 14, 2008 The cap just finished exploding off my bomber. Poured foamy and tan all over my desk. When it finially settled down, it poured nearly black (very dark brown) with tan head and chunkies in the bottom. Aroma is spice, smoke and chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick (very nice). Nice malt up front with a smokey finish blended with molases and caramel. Nice finish, I would maybe want just a little more flavor up front. I was expecting something a little more bold. I still really like this brew though.
Svesse (1492), Hässelby, Sweden Jul 5, 2008 (Bottle) Very dark brown colour with ruby hints through light. Frothy, lasting, brown head, leaving traces of lacing. Roasted, malty, spicy nose with chocolate, clove, ginger, citrus and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, Christmas spices (ginger, clove), gingerbread cake, juniper berries, Seville orange and a hint of tar and smoke. Full body, rather sweet, with a hint of alcohol lingering in the background. Lovely beer, leaning in the porter direction. These uncompromising Norwegians never seem to let me down. Keep ’em coming.
