markwise (257), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2008 Wow. Very complex beer. It pours a dark brown color with a small amount of tan head. The aroma is of dark chocolate with notes of dark fruit and I swear there’s port in it. Kind of thick and creamy in the mouth it finishes with some hop bite and warms as it goes down. Good Christmas beer!
espenra (97), Oslo, Norway Aug 6, 2008 50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 315. It poured a black colour with a medium light-brown head that settles down slowly in the glass. It has a sweet aroma that smells of caramel, coffee and spices. The flavour is spicy and tastes of alcohol, pepper, burned malts and dark chocolate. It has a long, lingering aftertaste. ajm (304), USA Jul 15, 2008 This guy is a keeper, and a horrible monster who would darken my Christmas if I ever drank it during that holiday. Thick like cough syrup, and dark enough that people with coughs would begin leaping out of windows if this was the only remedy. Would be a stout if it wasn’t so impossibly sweet - thick with date syrup and brown sugar - not a trace of wheat, grain or anything dirty in here. Svesse (1621), Hässelby, Sweden Jul 5, 2008 (Bottle) Very dark brown colour with ruby hints through light. Frothy, lasting, brown head, leaving traces of lacing. Roasted, malty, spicy nose with chocolate, clove, ginger, citrus and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, Christmas spices (ginger, clove), gingerbread cake, juniper berries, Seville orange and a hint of tar and smoke. Full body, rather sweet, with a hint of alcohol lingering in the background. Lovely beer, leaning in the porter direction. These uncompromising Norwegians never seem to let me down. Keep ’em coming. Todeon (166), Höllviken, Sweden Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Aroma is a bit vinious. Brown color with a mediumsized head. Flavor is really spicey with lots of licorice in it. maniac (1949), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle on 06/28/2008, labelled Winter Ale.
