probstk (700), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2008 500 ml bottle shared with Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a goblet. BB21.03.11.
App.: Very dark brown-black, remnants of a mocha head.
Aroma: Worcestershire sauce – briny, savoury, meaty; very smoky (like a Rauchbier), a bit of chocolate, coffee and fruit, metallic, huge.
Palate: Medium+ body and moderate carbonation.
Flav.: Enormous! Massive gobs of figs, raisins, and dried fruits, smoky French-roasted coffee and dark chocolate, a touch metallic, some alcohol, huge and thick and oily, sticks around for a long time.
Massive and beautifully executed.
movezig (21), USA Oct 15, 2008 My favorite beer of all time. I put the bottle above my fireplace with pride. This beer is incredibly complex. Poured a jet black with a 2 finger brown head. Nose is sweet sugary notes of vanilla light chocolate and coffee, even got some freshly baked cookie notes here and there. Flavors are all over. Got Vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, roasted malt even a little spice on the finish. What I really liked about this beer and why its my favorite is that is so well balanced. With all these dark roasted notes Nogne was able to keep the palate medium bodied so that it was easy to drink making it work well with food. The only thing I hate is how hard it is to get. I went to four winds in Pensacola and they has just taken it out of the box, so I bought 2 bottles. I came back the next day the entire case of 24 bottles was gone....24 hours gone. Have never seen it since :( If you can get one do it, its amazing!!! odgaard (5), Skyum, Thisted, Denmark does not count Oct 15, 2008 50 cl bottle. Black. Allmost impossible to look through even against the light. Large long-lasting chocolate-colored head.
Smell: very pleasant with lots of chocolate, malt, vanilla and a little alcohol.
Low carbonation. Thick and pleasant brew in the mouth.
taste: Bitter chocolate, vanilla, with a little alcohol in the aftertaste.
Exactly the kind of beer I like! KAggie97 (1924), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle from KAggie. Dude, your music lists don’t contain many obscure bands, but you rock! Yeeeeehaw!
Wow! What an aesthetically pleasing beer! Deep, lush, black like mid-December in the brewer’s homeland, with a head to match the sunset just prior to the long, dark months ahead that mark a Norwegian winter. Aroma is bursting with cocoa, chocolate, chocolate pudding, coffee, a touch of oak-casked whisky, and brown sugar. The alcohol clears the sinuses almost immediately. Flavor is a rush of coffee-bittered chocolate and sweet smoke, rounded out with more coffee in the finish. A touch of roasted cherry emerges as the beer warms. Thick, coating palate that warms like a jacket on a cold, snowy winter night. I bought this at Goebel’s in Wichita; I will definitely be buying more when I return in November. AWESOME! Fin (2375), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Oct 13, 2008 Bottle picked up in Superbrugsen, Denmark, September 08 Pours shark eye black with a large brown, busy and bubbly head. Wonderful hoppy nose but also with some nice burntness and cocoa. Sweet, malty and chocolatey, quite creamy, hops push through again, nice burnt flavours, great beer. southamptonsam (51), New York, USA Oct 6, 2008 Beautiful Imperial Stout. Lovely head, great body, smooth and balanced. I love Imperial Stouts and this is one of the best. It should also get an extra .2 of a point for its most aesthetic bottle.
