Jonte (331), Gothenburg, Sweden Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Black color with a brown head. Aroma: Dark fruit, licorice, coffee, bitter hops and smoke. Flavor: Roasted and bitter, licorice, bitter hops, espresso, dark chocolate, toffee, maybe some sweet fruit, and a bit of alcohol. Roasted and bitter dry finish. Full bodied. Nice, but not a beer I would drink a lot of.
crazyvin (1058), New York, USA Jul 26, 2008 Good, but not great imperial stout, poured a deep black hue with a brown head that had nice retention. Aroma seemed of just coffee notes. Flavor was a bit more complex with a little more sweetness to it then i expected. A nice dry and creamy finish. Very bitter aftertase. mar (522), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2008 black pour with a deep espresso head. thick roasted malts, chocolate and a slight hint of coffee on the nose. this beer is very thick on the palate with huge roasted malts and a very sweet chocolate flavor that pair quite well with the dried fruits. SuperDave70 (652), Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Deep black pour with a ring of brown head. Aroma of smoke, dark chocolate, roasted grain and malt, coffee and dark fruit. Lots of great flavors, following pretty closely with the aroma. A bit of hops and warming alcohol on the finish. A really big, beautiful brew! probstk (627), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2008 500 ml bottle shared with Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a goblet. BB21.03.11.
App.: Very dark brown-black, remnants of a mocha head.
Aroma: Worcestershire sauce – briny, savoury, meaty; very smoky (like a Rauchbier), a bit of chocolate, coffee and fruit, metallic, huge.
Palate: Medium+ body and moderate carbonation.
Flav.: Enormous! Massive gobs of figs, raisins, and dried fruits, smoky French-roasted coffee and dark chocolate, a touch metallic, some alcohol, huge and thick and oily, sticks around for a long time.
Massive and beautifully executed.
