diabel (1188), Aarschot, Belgium Apr 8, 2008 Bottle Amber, clear body. Off-white, lightly brown/yellow head. Aroma of (American) hops and citrus (orange). Well balanced balanced aroma with some complexity, not as one dimensional aroma as a lot of IPA’s. Heavily bitter, lightly sweet initial flavour. Harshly bitter finish. Quite nice flavour, not too bitter, but nice enough for an IPA.
RollinHard (507), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 22, 2008 Thanks to....Secret Santa? jrob_21? I can’t remember exactly. Dirty burnt orange pour. Aroma was fairly faint for an IPA, some vague citrus, bread crust, brown sugar, some floral scents. Tastes pretty malty with brown sugar, dirt, caramel, rye with subtle citrus flavors and moderate bitterness. Finishes with a grapefruit bitterness, more bitter than flavorful. Full bodied with a good creamy mouthfeel and a well done carbonation. Good malt flavor no doubt, but the hops are unexciting to me. pineypower (845), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jul 20, 2008 Thanks to Santa for this. Pours out a hazy dark amber/copper color with a moderate rocky head. The aroma is of pine and some citrus hops, slight malt in the background. Taste is pine and citrus resin hoppiness with a nice sweet caramel/slight fruity backbone. Very nicely balanced, I definitely liked this one. redlight (1030), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle gushed when opened. No off aromas though, rich malty aromas with hints of sweet pine. The beer pours a golden amber with reddish hues and white orange head that disipates. Rich malt flavors up front, caramel, sweet breads, with a big hop flavor quickly following, hoppy citrus and pine resins. It finishes with a dry bitterness with just a hint of fruit at the very end and leaves a piney sticky feeling long after you swallow. Very nice IPA. beerheart (218), Erie, Colorado, USA Jul 5, 2008 I would write the same things I write about most good IPAs--about piney hops, citrus, etc. I think what is distinctive about this is that it is such a well-done traditional IPA. What makes it distinctive is the long fruity finish. Very nice. .I am looking forward to trying more beers from Nøgne. aracauna (2221), Georgia, USA Jun 30, 2008 Pours a rich amber with a slight haze. The head domes over the top of the glass nicely. The aroma is nicely hoppy, but not really over the top. The flavor is a nice balance of hop flavor and bitterness with a solid malt backbone. Tasty beer.
