tupalev (2267), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2007 Huge, huge thanks to blankboy for sharing his bottle of this with me. Very dark brown, small bubbly brown head. Great aroma - chocolaty, rich, roast, wow! Taste is just as good if not better. Rich bitter roast, sweet chocolate. Nice bitter linger. Full bodied. Complex, yet so drinkable. Probably the best porter I have ever had and one of the best beers I have ever had. heemer77 (3611), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 24, 2007 I have a winner for rating #2800. From a bottle, new arrival at John’s Grocery. The body is very dark brown, near black with traces or garnet at the edges when held to light. The head is long lasting and medium khaki colored. The aroma is rich roasted coffee with some good hot chocolate. There is also a hint of fresh peas. The taste is lightly roasted almonds with some espresso in the finish. There is a little bit of bread crust and even some tangerines in the finish. The body is relatively thin and smooth. Everything I look for in a porter. This is a great beer, not just an amazing porter. 19641948 (476), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 5, 2007 Pours a deep shadowy black with a thin head of mocha. Laces intermittently. Aromas of licorice, plums, chocolate, and vanilla bean. Warming flavors of deep plum, licorice, dark wheat toast, roasty malts. Rich flavors. Heavily roasted malts. Lactose with anise. Creamy mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste. Subtle smoke to me. I loved this beer. GreatLibations (1241), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours midnight brown w/ a tall lasting froth. Even though this brew was right out of the fridge it managed to push up a ton of foam. Great effort. The lacing is sticky, lasting, and fluffy w/ a thick downy canopy. Aromas of roasted coffee and dusty Belgian malts. Full nectar w/ soft and oily residual effers. A big, chewy, mocha basted, gluttonous malt backbone w/ a forward roast component comprise the general disposition here. Dry as a bone w/ heavily roasted coffee bean, leather, degrated darkfruit skins. The finish is bittered well w/ a rather strong hop profile. This is a huge beer. Strong w/ a serious attitude. Drinks like molten dark chocolate. I’ll bet it will benefit from some serious aging. I’m gonna toss a few in the age basket. Highly recommended. bdigi66 (408), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 29, 2007 Black bottle pour consisting of an amber-colored halo and a small tan head. Nutty, malt oriented aroma with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and some fruit. Great silky mouth feel leading to a big malt, hazelnut, and mocha taste.
