stoutlover72 (1336), NorCal, California, USA Apr 21, 2008 Hadn’t really expected much with this and was really suprised to find out how dry the beer was. There was really very little sweetness left, just a lot of ashy/roasted notes that I didn’t find all that enjoyable. The beer looked great though. A nice thick black liquid with a creamy tan foamy head. Aroma smelled a lot like coffee too, with some dark chocolate notes too. I know I’m unabashed in my love of stouts, especially those on the sweeter side of things. This beer was clearly on the other end of the spectrum. But still, I did enjoy the beer and would get it again.
minch25 (190), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 3, 2008 Black; creamy tan head. Rich depth of dark malts. Dry, bitter, rich; creamy. A very excellent porter. jkaiser (114), USA Oct 2, 2008 Good beer. My 11th a beerfest. I couldn’t find this beer booth at first. I would towel off from the pool and have a Porter with cheese and crackers. dpjuart (572), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 9/13/08 - Bottle courtesy/shared with Naka. Pours black with thin, khaki head. Nose is sugar and raisin, slight chocolate and caramel. Fantastic oak and bourbon-esque character. Taste is slight coffee and lits of chocolate, slight spicy notes. a bit of oak and bourbon-y alcohol. moderately watery mouth feel. Chocolate and slight bitter finish. Great porter. plovmand (676), Helsinge, Denmark Sep 27, 2008 Bottle at Nnudd tasting. Courtesy of Yngwie. Poured black with a medium beige head. In nose licorice and roasted malts. Medium bodied. It tastes like licorice, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. I thought it would be more complex but pretty good porter. darn1207 (335), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 bottle. deep brown pour with a big fizzy tan head that never goes away completely. sweet coffee, bread and milk smells. little thinner than I was expecting (for some unknown reason) - but still had a chewy quality to it. tastes of dark fruits, toasted malts, dark chocolate and soy. interesting. not sure I’ve had a porter like this before. probably more complex than any I’ve had before - but maybe wouldn’t be dying to try again.
