A full flavoured, full bodied, old fashioned London style porter. At 50p a can, this beer is a plesent surprise for a Londoner marooned in China. Pleasant, drinkable and full of character. Don’t expect much of a head though. One word of warning, the untrained pallet probably wont appreciate this little Chinese gem, only buy in bulk if you like a nice porter.

50 cl can @ wPBF III.
Pours dark ruby red color with a minimal head. Very dry roasted coffee on the nose, some dark berries too, maybe faint cocoa powder. Very sweet and dry cocoa flavor, some dark, some creme brulee too. Quite unique brew, not what I would have expected from a can.

Canned@wPBFIII. Deep ruby red colour, not much head. Aroma is coffee, some roasted, coffeeish and toasted noted. Flavour is coffee, toffee, roast and some slight something-like-treat-me-like-bitterness to it.

50 cl bottle @ wPBF Ⅲ,
Aroma is rather neat with coffee and truffle. Flavour has rather artifical chocolate tones and cardboard. Feels watery. Odd stuff, not sure if I like this or not.

Can 50 cl. Courtesy of my cousin Martin. Pours a dark brown with an orange hue with a rough beige head. Sweet roast in the nose with a little vanilla. Medium body, sweet roast and vanilla with a lightly metallic touch. A little licorice too and a not overly clean malt bill. Hardly any bitterness. But decently drinkable. 230511

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are artificial coffee candy, chocolate, molasses, fruits, roast malt, caramel and hops. Sweet finish.

Naale Stoutbeer 13° is a souvenir I picked up in Shanghai at Century Mart near my hotel. 4.5% This beer pours a cola brown with a big soapy beige head of foam. The aroma is pretty damn good rich chocolate toffee/fudge, kind of like burnt caramel. Med-light bodied, a bit too thin and the carbonation seems to be giving me a bit of heartburn. The flavor is alright with that burnt caramel fudge & molasses taste coming through strong but also a bit artificial like a flavoring syrup. Unfortunately, this beer goes downhill as you continue drinking it.

Cola beer in appearance; brownish black with good clarity and moderate carbonation. Holds a decent, loose and rocky tannish crown for the length. Caramel, diacetyl, cocoa butter and just a little charred wood on the aroma. Similar in taste. Very sweet, packed with caramel and butterscotch with funky notes of seaweed, burnt toast, earthy mushrooms, dust and cellar must. Frothy and foamy in mouthfeel. Long linger, good presence but not altogether the best tasting of beers. My only Stout for my China trip and it was a little ho-hum. Still made a change from all the pale lagers!! (50cL can, BB 15/11/12, off-license near Chuansha, Shanghai, China)
